Installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof of existing buildings C22, C23

Project facts

Project promoter:
Lantmannen Unibake Romania S.A.(RO)
Project Number:
RO-ENERGY-0093
Status:
Completed
Final project cost:
€521,600
Donor Project Partners:
International Development Norway AS(NO)

Description

The main objective of the project is implementation of a 0,7506 MWp (DC) photovoltaic system on two existing building roofs to assure electricity from renewable resources for the own electricity consumption of Lantmannen Unibake Romania S.A. and also to reduce CO2 emissions. The rationale behind the project is to optimize electricity costs and increase the share of renewable energy used for own-consumption purposes with minimum environmental impact.
The photovoltaic plant will produce 927 MWh/year for own consumption, representing approximately 20% of the company’s yearly electricity consumption. Currently Lantmannen extracts all electricity it needs from a connection to the national grid, having used on average 4.750 MWh/year for production purposes.
The project targets focus on fossil-free production and transport, continuing energy efficiency, and investments and measures to reduce the carbon footprint by:

  • Creating conditions for sustainable primary production with halved climate emissions every decade and climate neutrality by 2050,
  • Reducing the climate impact of own production by 50% by 2030 in line with the Paris Agreement.
  • Reducing the business''s carbon footprint is a priority and the investment planned by Lantmannen Unibake Romania SA aligns to this strategy, looking to improve the Romanian subsidiary’s CO2 balance.

The project will be implemented in partnership with International Development Norway (IDN) who will help build interna expertise on green energy production for industrial usage. IDN is a professional organization with over 20 years of experience in international projects. Among their tasks for this project is performing a technical-economic comparison with the planned solution and give a second opinion on the technical specification to secure an up to date, cost effective solution, and a consistent ToR for the procurement.

Summary of project results

The main problem of the Project Promoter was the high dependency on the conventional energy sources, including the electricity purchased from the national grid, which represents a high cost for the company.

The project consisted in implementation of a photovoltaic system placed on the buildings roofs, with a total installed capacity of 0,864 MWp, in order to assure electricity from renewable sources for the daily activities of the Project Promoter and to reduce CO2 emissions.

Outcomes:
a) Estimated annual CO2 emission reductions: 284 tonns of CO2 eq./year;
b) Energy produced from other renewable sources in MWh/year:  927 MWh/year;

Outputs:
a) Installed capacity for production of electricity (in MW): 0,864 MW;
b) Number of new installations for production of renewable energy: 1 photovoltaic installation.

The photovoltaic system contributes to decreasing the dependency on conventional  sources by locally producing green energy which is used for own consumption. The implementation of renewable energy allows the company to decrease its annual CO2 emissions with estimated 284 tonnes of CO2 eq. per year.

Summary of bilateral results

The Norwegian Partner (International Development Norway, IDN) has provided expertise and recommendations for the technical requirements of the PV system. These recommendations were used to improve the procurement documentation so that to achieve better quality and performance of the planned photovoltaic system.
