Description

The project "Migration is not fun" contributes to the safe coexistence of majority and minority parts of society and the elimination of prejudices of the majority society towards migrants/foreigners. The project brings to schools 2 tools for integrating the topic of migration(migrants/foreigners) to education at the primary schools (aged 13-15) and secondary schools, mainly in the Olomouc region, through seminars for 15 teachers and the seminar‘s manual on how to speak to children about migration. The project offers practical steps not only for teaching the topic, but mainly for communication on extremist opinions held by children in the field of migration.

Summary of project results

The background of the project focused on migration issue was to give information about these topics to pupils/students/teachers and so avoid accepting thoughtlessly the information about migration from media, families and other people. It might be difficult for teachers to react appropriately to migration statements, therefore the project aimed to give support to teachers (information, methodologies). The project delivered two main outputs – seminar series on migration issue and methodological handbook “Migration is not fun” for teachers. The seminar series was composed of three workshops for teachers that brought theoretical information, lectures from specialists on migration topics, didactical support (how to teach about migration) and also communication workshops (how to communicate effectively and safely about migration). The methodological handbook brings basic information about migration, recommendation where to find other information and also didactical materials. Teachers who have completed a series of seminars are adequately equipped for introducing the topic of migration into teaching. They are able to positively influence their students, provide them with understanding and critical thinking about information. Handbook "Migration is not fun" makes teaching about migration topic easier to teachers who have not participated in a series of seminars, and so they can also have positive impact on their students.
