Summary of project results
The project focused on a new design for the exhibition in the Archaeology Hall of the Museum. It included the implementation of high-tech methods and interactive experiences, in order for the museum to become an attraction not only for children, but also for representatives of different age groups. The improved management and presentation of some of the most valuable and interesting artifacts from the museum''s collection would attract a new and diverse audience and present the rich archaeological heritage of the Pazardzhik region. The new and modern exposition would boost many entrepreneurial ideas within the local community, would further highlight the important role of culture and movable cultural heritage as a driver in local and regional development.
The main activities implemented under the project were aimed at revitalising the space and renew the exhibition in the Archaeology Hall at the museum. The movable cultural value items and information about them are placed in exhibition areas according to the chronological sequence of the main historical eras, and each era represents one section of the exhibition - Prehistory, Antiquity and the Middle Ages. A separate space is provided for small temporary exhibitions to present new discoveries after each archaeological season, exhibits of the month, restoration processes of individual artifacts and other thematic and visiting exhibitions.
In the renovated exhibition in the Archaeology Hall of the Regional History Museum – Pazardzhik, through a harmonious design, some of the most valuable and interesting archaeological artifacts from the museum''s collection are presented. For the first time, the gold finds from the Yunatsite settlement mound, the Thracian treasure from the village of Ravnogor, gold finds from the villages of Sinitovo and Kalugerovo, the treasure from the village of Tsruncha, collective coin finds from the villages of Chernogorovo, Miryantsi and the town of Kostandovo, the coin of the Thracian tribe "Deroni" - one of the earliest coins discovered in Bulgarian lands, as well as other impressive numismatic artifacts. An interactive map will introduce visitors to fortresses, settlements, mounds, necropolises, sanctuaries and churches that have been explored on the territory of the Pazardzhik region. Interactive stratigraphy will reveal the layers of the Yunatsite settlement mound and the finds characteristic of the period. Using augmented reality methods, the exhibition will provide its visitors with interesting experiences – the dance of the nymphs from the Sanctuary of the Three Nymphs, a reconstruction of a prehistoric dwelling, a Thracian chariot and the medieval fortress of Tsepina; a reconstruction of a horse harness with the decoration from the Ravnogorsk treasure. Each visitor can virtually put on a part of the Tsrchanski treasure and take a selfie as a souvenir. A personal audio guide card, through artistic narration, will reveal interesting facts about the artifacts exhibited in the hall.
Summary of bilateral results
The Norwegian partner Østfoldmuseene (The Museums of Østfold) is a foundation that includes 18 museums from the Kingdom of Norway, and actively contributed to the implementation of the project. The partners had an independent role in the organizing and conducting a workshop in Norway for the development of the content of museum software and capacity building. The partner’s experience shared with the Bulgarian museum experts was extremely important for building competencies in the presentation of cultural heritage through interactive technologies. The interactive presentation of exhibits from the updated exhibition attracted great interest from the visitors.
