Description

The project focuses on the prevention of domestic violence, consisting of implementing a therapeutic program for men who do not manage aggression in relationships in the South Moravian Region, Brno. It is about supporting a well-established counselling and therapeutic workplace and at the same time promoting its activities and the topic of working with violent people in the region.

The project will achieve the goal through the implementation of two key activities:

  • Implementation of therapeutic programs (individual sessions, groups and weekend stays) for perpetrators of violence - men;
  • Implementation of therapeutic programs for perpetrators of violence - members of LGBTQ+;
  • Promotion and awareness towards the professional and general public focused on the media coverage of programs and activities related to therapeutic programs for men who do not manage aggression in relationships.

The project will be implemented in the South Moravian Region. At the beginning of the project, a comprehensive analysis of existing attitudes and willingness to perceive and address gender-based violence in the relevant professions in the field of LGBTQ+ will be performed.

The organisation will create the first-ever therapeutic program to end gender-based violence among perpetrators of interpersonal violence reporting to LGBTQ+. To ensure the high quality of the program, the project will connect within the LOI with the LOM organisation, which has been dealing with the issue of violence with perpetrators of violence for a long time.

The project will strengthen the current workplace of the organisation, which provides counselling and therapeutic services for the new programme, directly in the Spondea building. The goal of the non-aggression program is to give perpetrators basic information about the manifestations and consequences of gender-based violence and help them find a solution to their situation.

Summary of project results

The project focused on the prevention of domestic violence via implementing a therapeutic program for men who do not manage aggression in relationships in the South Moravian Region. The project supported a well-established counselling and therapeutic workplace and at the same time promoted its activities and the topic of working with violent people in the region. The project also opened a programme for LGBT people and communicated the topic in the LGBT community to the target group.

Within the project, a survey on LGBTQ+ people at risk of using violence was done and  methodologies for helping services (summary of taboos, barriers and gender-sensitive approaches) were elaborated. The client work (individual programme for women and men, LGBTQ+ users of violence, group programme for men using violence) has brought about a reduction or cessation of the level of violence in close relationships. The newly launched group programme , in particular,  has enabled selected (suitable for the group programme) clients to manage aggression in relationships effectively and with the support of the experience of other men and to acquire techniques for better self-regulation. The project promoter also launched an awareness raising campaign in working with users of violence through the Instagram @mluvmeonasili, the exhibition Are you talking about violence? and conferences.

The project brought prevention and stopping violence in close relationships for 182 clients* who received support through anger management, follow-up therapy, and a group programme for users of violence. According to the questionnaire survey with clients: subjective perception of reduction or stopping of violence - 98% of clients would return to the programme if necessary, about 80% of physical violence was reduced, about 60% of psychological violence and about 70% of material violence was reduced. Thanks to the project, a higher number of clients  can now use the programme, better quality work to stop violence improved by system of supervision, the project promoter moved towards European standards for work with people who use violence. As a result, the project has brought about the stabilisation and streamlining of a tool for preventing violence in close relationships.
