Description

The aim of the project is primary and secondary prevention of violence in relationships and gender-based violence in the Czech Republic. The goal will be achieved by expanding and improving therapeutic work with clients (especially men) who have difficulty managing their aggression and anger, and commit violence against their partners and children.

Without working with perpetrators of violence (especially men), violence in relationships (especially women and children) cannot be successfully stopped. Within the project, group and individual therapeutic work with clients will be implemented.

Summary of project results

The expansion of therapeutic work allowed perpetrators of violence to recognize the causes of aggression and learn to work with them without using violence. Group and individual work, in addition to positive results for the project''s clients and their surroundings, also contributed to increasing awareness of the possibilities of managing aggression among the lay and professional public.

Main focus of the project was individual and group work with perpetrators of violence against partners and/or children. The project had publicity provided by both press releases and separate project websites (https://zvladanivzteku.cz/zvladani-vzteku-norske-fondy/). Publicity helped raise awareness among potential participants in the project, as well as the general public. Altogether 5 round tables were then held for the professional public, during which current issues and problems related to the issue of gender-based and domestic violence, prevention and work with the perpetrators of violence were discussed. In addition to round tables, the project promoter initiated and participated in advocacy meetings with specific stakeholders (politicians, heads of organizations, donors, etc.). An evaluation of the entire project was also underway, which enabled the project promoter to project the experience from the implementation and the outputs into the plan of activities and other activities.

A total of 387 individual (69 clients) and  1751 hours of group therapy (24  clients) were provided. As resulted from the program evaluation, a significant decrease can be seen in psychological violence, which was most common among clients, after completing the program. Physical violence, which was less frequent, also decreased. The number of manifestations of sexual violence among clients was minimal before and after participation in the program, but it also decreased. The implementation of the project contributed significantly to the primary and secondary prevention of violence in relationships and gender-based violence in the Czech Republic. As part of the advocacy activity of the project, we also focused on financing options that will move from individual projects to a systemic solution.
