The project aim is to support volunteering education for youth and public. It´s neccessary to inovate it in terms of the current issues of environmental protection–the climate change we face. It´s essential to present and offer volunteering as an effective, easy and community-based tool of climate change resilience and connect voluntary activities with public education to enhance understanding of the natural processes as well as the men´s role in them.Climate change and resilience is an important topic of all the policies and strategies on the national as well as international level, this project offers a piece of the mosaic of different tools to fulfill them.
The project inovates high school education programmes to reinforce climate-change-education and promote volunteering for environment. We´ll inovate our programmes according to the teachers and studetns needs and test them on a relevant sample of youth. We´ll create an up-to-date set of programmes for high schools focused on climate change and active citizenship.
The project inovates/reinforces the education for voluntary activities organisers. We have a pool of organisers providing voluntary activities in environmental protection within their communities.According to our overall strategy the project activities share relevant information about climate change and resilience activities among these organisers. The intention is to cooperate with experts as well as bring, share and develop good practice experience of our partners and regional branches. We´ll create new educational events for the organisers of voluntary activities enriched with subsequent testing activities (community voluntary activities)The organisers will learn as well as practice the knowledge gained during the education in cooperation with experienced metors.
Summary of project results
The awareness of the public and especially young people of nature protection and adaptation in the context of climate change is increasing recently. However, it is necessary not only to understand the importance of nature protection. People should understand the topic locally and should also be directly involved in adaptation measures on the local level. Increasing of active public participation in voluntary activities for nature and landscape protection was the main goal of the project. Organizers of volunteer events in which people can participate are usually also volunteers who need to be continuously educated and supported. These „active society members“ are crutial for long-lasting, high-quality and interresting activities we may involve people in. Therefore a partial goal was to support small local organizations and above all active individuals - through education and methodically - for activities at the local level.
We managed to collect good practice examples of different activities in climate change adaptation and environmental protection
involving local communities, youth and the public. We developed and ran one day, weekend and even longer educational activities for people interested or active in
environmental protection activities, volunteering and education. More than 330 participants got new information about water management, biodiversity, healthy
landscape etc. Some of them became active organisers of different volunteering activities in which they promoted the idea of active citizenship in climate change
adaptation among over 400 people in different regions all over the country. The project enabled to appeal high school students as well and offer up-to-date
information about climate change and volunteering as a tool for local adaptation. Over 240 students were encouraged to think about climate change and become
active as well. We created 11 methodologies in order to use the knowledge gained in the project further. We also managed to share information regarding
climate change, its local manifestation and role of active approach (eg. Volunteering) among youth and public via different tools of promotion.
The project stimulated cooperation and sharing of experience between more than 50 different regional organizations, 20 high school teachers and about 30 experts in
various fields (nature protection, work with public). Secondary school students (251) got an up-to-date information about the topic of climate change and the possibilities of
involvement in volunteering within the educational programs, for which the methodology was also updated/developed.
More than 200 people – organisers, active volunteers - attended one of the educational events on a specific topic (climate change, biodiversity, water management, involving
the public in adaptation measures). The methodical manuals supporting the professional and technical quality of public volunteer events were created not only for the educational event participants, but also for approximately 250 other organizers and anyone else.
More than 3,000 people were also reached by the awareness campaign including a large conference with experts and various organizations representatives, club meetings or
infopoints at various events.
