Description

The objective of this bilateral initiative is to work on a MSc dissertation within the framework of the Advanced Master in Structural Analysis of Monuments and Historical Constructions (a one-year Master program jointly organized by four partner Universities), with the supervision of NTNU.
NTNU and University of Minho will collaborate in performing an in situ inspection and intervention proposal on original warehouses in Trondheim (Norway). Warehouses belong to a widespread European building tradition, while the use of wood as material and some peculiar construction features are ascribable to

Summary of the results

The main aim of this initiative was to analyze existing warehouses in terms of decay caused by climate change. This was done through in-situ inspection and monitoring. The warehouse presented water-damage and salts formation, and interventions should be implemented. The results were shared with the interested community (engineers and architects interested in cultural heritage) in a two-day workshop.

The bilateral initiative is contributing to strengthening bilateral relations as it has allowed to share knowledge between the two countries and gave ideas for the preparation of a H2020 proposal for call CL5-2022-D4-02-03, which is under preparation.
The call also allowed to travel from Norway to Portugal, which has usually a high cost of travel. Unfortunately, due to some delays, travel from Portugal to Norway was not possible.
