Description

Single parents are a group which is most at risk of social exclusion and working poverty in the Czech Republic. This impacts negatively especially the future prospects of their children, but also leads to poverty in old age. As a result of their role overload, single parents find it difficult to engage in civic society and thus bring about positive changes for themselves. Moreover, they suffer from lack of social capital. The project leverages their interest in networking to support the formation and operation of eight regional informal networks that will work with local stakeholders to bring about meaningful positive change in their localities to contribute to the reduction of single parent overload. In doing so, they will be supported by a team of mentors and Aperio specialists, who will provide assistance on the basis of a new methodology created within the project. Their stories will appear in regional media to increase the number of their supporters and promote their cause. We will also reach out to the national media and politicians/officials at government level to maximise the impact on the discourse on supporting solo parents.

Summary of project results

The main goal of the project was to improve the quality of care for vulnerable disadvantaged pupils at our 3 partner schools through the implementation of project activities  /outside A5/.

From a long-term point of view and from the point of view of sustainability, the activities aimed at setting up the processes of functioning of the school counseling service significantly contributed to the fulfillment of this goal workplace, strengthening the competences of pedagogues for working with vulnerable/disadvantaged pupils through their education and ensuring methodological support and implementing evaluation of schools and the subsequent creation of an action plan for the development of schools. In this way, we have contributed to the improvement of the educational conditions of these pupils, to the early detection of problems and timely setting of adequate support for pupils. Important when working with children at risk is the interdisciplinary cooperation not only of experts working at the school, but also of other external experts such as the body for the social and legal protection of children, social service providers, psychologists, psychiatrists, etc.

We introduced schools to the so-called case tool meeting around the child, which serves precisely to set up comprehensive support for children and their families. We perceive its implementation in partnership with schools as a positive aspect of the project, as well as support for the sharing of experiences between schools. This aspect was especially appreciated by the schools themselves, which shared their experiences mainly within the framework of the implementation of the Platform for sharing the experiences of pedagogues. Cooperation with the Fair School, which implemented the schools, were evaluated and, based on their outputs, action plans for the development of schools were subsequently created. The evaluation provided the school management with a comprehensive view of the situation in the school not only from from the point of view of the educational conditions created especially for pupils with special educational needs, but also in general regarding the school climate. All schools based on evaluation results were awarded the title of Fair Schools.
