Description
Eating disorders are often misunderstood. At Mea vita – the Institute for Research and Psychotherapy we offer professional help to people suffering from eating disorders and their loved ones in a compassionate and understanding way, while also raising general public awareness about eating disorders. We try to do this in the most understandable and plastic way possible.
Our project involves developing an innovative therapeutic tool: an audio-video simulation of the feelings and behaviors of a person with anorexia, including special effects to help people experience their feelings. Using this tool, their loved ones, as well as professionals, will be able to experience the feelings of people with anorexia. In this way, they will develop more empathy and understanding towards people with anorexia.
The tool will first be presented to experts, and then to the general public with an online campaign. Experts and people with an experience of eating disorders aged between 18 and 29 will be involved in designing the device.
Summary of project results
Eating disorders are on the rise, especially among young people, and often, those suffering from such disorders are not well understood. Therefore, in co-production with Film Factory, we created a short film Goodbye, Ana! Hello, Me! which depicts how a girl with anorexia experiences the world and herself
The creation of the short film involved individuals with their own experiences of eating disorders and their relatives.
The film reached the professional community (presentation within the Expert Group on Eating Disorders and among several psychotherapists who also used it in their work). It also reached a wider audience through a web campaign and media contributions on RTV and MMC. It was selected among the 100 best films at the Golden FEMI Film Festival 2023 in Sofia and was nominated for the Vesna Award for Short Films at the Slovene Film Festival 2023 in Portorož and is listed in the Slovenian Film Database.
