Description

The project focuses on supporting artists in holistic music therapy, especially on developing their original production and cooperation with musicians from other countries and playing different styles and creating new performances together like joint production, merging styles.

The vital part of the project is to increase awareness about this type of art and its possibilities and create publicity for these artists. However, the project also offers new perspectives and opportunities on business associated with the Covid-19 pandemic crisis; the online course can increase awareness about the field of music therapy even in the situation when face-to-face events can not occur.

The project''s first activity is an organization of a music festival that contains a performance of Czech and foreign artists, including their original joint production. We will organize this festival every year regularly.

The next part of the project is an online course and communication platform for the public audience and all interested people. This platform will be used for sharing information and staying in touch during an occasional lockdown. The course will introduce the history and usage of all the instruments often used in music therapy and their impact on people''s well-being and health. This course will also contain records of the music played on these instruments by professionals.  We will create a website about the festival and the rest of the project to promote the artists'' work.

Other parts of the project are a mobile music therapy lab that brings artists close to their audience and enables them to organize events in nature.

Summary of project results

The purpose of the project was to introduce holistic music therapy, its benefits and use to the public and to enable music therapists to expand their scope of practice from disabled clients to other target groups who can benefit from music therapy for different types of problems they face in their lives. Another goal was to put into operation a mobile music therapy laboratory. The biggest problem during the project was the huge inflation that caused financial shortages throughout the project.

The project provided: two music therapy festivals for the public; recordings of all performances and workshops, which are currently being used as a resource for the creation of further publication materials; a two-day meeting of music therapists with educational content aimed at promoting their own work and improving business strategy; a two-day methodological meeting of music therapists with the possibility of sharing experiences; a set of websites that present the project and its activities, inform about holistic music therapy, inform about the services of music therapists in the Czech Republic, publish scientific discoveries in areas related to music therapy, an online course on holistic music therapy, the establishment of a music therapy laboratory, the organization of 20 workshops with the music therapy laboratory. The aim of these activities is to spread the awareness of holistic music therapy abroad and at the same time to increase international cooperation between music therapists.

The project to introduce the public to the possibilities of holistic music therapy was successful. The level of interest in the topic in the workshops exceeded our expectations The therapists involved in the project have seen an increase in invitations to provide therapy as well as educational programs. Social media analysis showed that more work would be needed on online promotion. In the future, we would like to focus on organising specialised seminars for specific target groups.

Summary of bilateral results

Our Norwegian partner managed the technical part of the first festival and he was also a part of the artistic team working on a new musical creation, combining music therapy and music in the performance. The unexpected inflation proved to be a big challenge, forcing us to make many austerity measures and to engage in much more unpaid work than we had expected, but we have proved that we can be flexible at the cost of some sacrifices. We appreciated that our Norwegian partner was able to provide us with his support and qualified advice in this problematic chapter.
