Description

Agriculture is an important factor influencing biodiversity as well as other environmental features in rural landscape. Impact of farming practice on nature can be effectively improved through individual cooperation between farmers and nature conservationists. In the Czech Republic, however, this approach has not yet been reflected adequately. The projects launches a process of implementation of farm environmental planning as an innovative tool for the management of agricultural biodiversity and landscape. It is based on training of farm environmental advisors and preparation of farm management plans in cooperation with farmers as the key target group. In order to gain overall support for the system the project also involves dissemination of information and negotiations with relevant institutions (alliances of farmers, ministries etc.). The project also strengthens expert capacity of the implementer by experience and know-how sharing.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to continue in previous efforts to develop a farm environment planning method in the Czech Republic. Until this project, farm plans were mainly a model approach (i.e. without expecting real implementation of environmental measures). Therefore, one of the main aims was to prepare such farm environment plans that would lead to direct implementation of measures, e.g. agri-environment subsidies. The second main aim was to test a training course for farm advisers (people who work out farm env. plan) and train some new advisers. This aims were fulfilled by two consequent activities. First of them enabled training of 4 advisers and preparation of 6 plans for season 2015, in which the measures were expected to be implemented. During this aktivity, the final content of the training course was evaluated, enabling to train 10 additional advisers in acitivity 2 and elaborate 10 other farm plans for season 2016. While on some farms more than one measure was implemented, the project contributed to 14 various implementations of farm environmental measures (specific agro-environmental subsidies, arrangements in grazing intensity, new features within SAPS greening etc.).
