Description

In three regions of the Ústí Region, we will carry out activities that will alleviate or eliminate undesirable phenomena resulting from the status of a socially excluded family. We will provide Roma children, from socially excluded localities, with conditions for a range of extracurricular activities and support for education that is inaccessible to them in the current socio-economic conditions. We will create a space for intercultural dialogue.
1. On the border of the towns of Chomutov and Jirkov (the low-threshold club Zahrada), we will provide space for extracurricular activities, tutoring, school preparation, and support in choosing secondary education for children and youth from 6 to 26 years of age. The heart of the club will be a children''s music group, in which not only musically gifted children are realized in the creation of music videos and the preparation of concerts. The activities are following the Local Inclusion Plan of the towns of Chomutov and Jirkov
2. In Duchcov, we specialize in the field of extracurricular activities for suburban and residential camps and trips, conceived in the form of experiential pedagogy for children from 5 to 15 years. In the field of education, we offer tutoring, school preparation, and support in choosing secondary education in the field in the home environment of a child from 6 to 26 years. The activities are following the 3rd Community Plan for the Development of Social and Related Services of the City of Duchcov
3. The Center for Children in Genoa provides children from a socially excluded locality of pre-school age with preparation for entering kindergarten. It offers pupils and students motivational holiday programs, which contribute to the prevention of school failure and offer participation in extracurricular activities. The application is following the Local Plan for Inclusion in Education (MPI), Litvínov. The aim of the project is also to involve the parents of children in the implemented activities.

Summary of project results

The target group is primarily Romani children who lack common developmental and educational activities. They do not have the support of their parents when learning. For financial reasons, they do not participate in other school activities and do not develop their talents. The deficit in knowledge is deepening to such an extent that they will cease to be interested in education or other leisure activities. The project wanted to contribute to breaking stereotypes in children and their parents.

The project was focused on five basic activities. Most of them targeted the development of Roma children, partly their parents and, to a lesser extent, the wider public.
Educational activities – group and individual tutoring and education for school-age and preschool children.
Development activities – art and music club. Development of creativity in the art club with subsequent exhibitions. Non professional music-making in a band and individual lessons on musical instruments.
Leisure activities – day camps and residential camps, trips. Cognitive and experiential events with a number of educational elements in the form of trips and day camps or residential camps.
Motivation of parents - individual consultations and group meetings with parents (educational procedures, motivation for children''s education, leisure time, etc.)
Intercultural Dialogue - Meeting of the Roma community with the wider public - 3 discussions with an accompanying program.

The project was implemented in 4 locations. 677 people participated, of which 574 were children.

More than half of them were Roma, the others were from disadvantaged social backgrounds. The project enabled children to develop their potential, mediated experiential education. Success is the

involvement of adolescents, and in smaller numbers a return to education. Compared to expectations, the participation of parents was weaker.

The children of our target group live in an unstimulating environment limited by financial possibilities. Facts are negatively reflected in the current life and affect the future by low family potential and low standard of living. The project provided a broader view of personal potential and opportunities that can lead them out of life stereotypes. Mediated experiences and school successes can make children want to repeat or multiply them, which can initiate a life change.
