Description

The project is focused on children aged from 3 to 15 (the majority of the target group is Roma children) in three localities of Pardubice region. The project responds to a situation where we still have children who don''t have access to pre-school education. Thus, there are significant differences in entering primary education. Based on our experience, these differences deepen during the educational process, which often ends in children''s failure, which in general leads to the incapability to finish primary school. Based on our work with the target group, we know that if we start on time, these children and their parents will be successful in the educational process as well as in social ties, and find their place in society.


The aim of the project is the implementation of a key activity - Preschool Education - to facilitate children from the Roma minority to enter the first grade of elementary school. The second activity - School Preparation Help - will prevent unsuccessful beginnings in school attendance. The additional activities will increase the quality of life of children and parents. For each locality, the position of a pedagogue and a local advisor will be established. They will implement the key activities and cooperate with other representatives.


The project will be realized in a partnership with kindergartens and primary schools in Chrudim, Hrochův Týnec (Čankovice) and Vysoké Mýto. Cooperation with these partners will remove barriers between children and their parents on the one hand and teachers on the other. We would like to achieve that parents of children living in socially excluded localities would be able to be partners in the process of educating their children, understanding, and being aware of the value of education. From the perspectives of the majority (teachers), we want these children to be accepted and evaluated without prejudice, as well as to treat their parents in the same way.

Summary of project results

The project reflected the current situation in the lives of children in social exclusion, to start on time. Preschools were a place not only for education, but also a place for connecting the majority and the minority. The cooperatiom brought a chance to change the view of CS, the possibility to change stereotypes. We
resolved the tension between the group of ukranian refugees and the Roma minority. Together with CS, we had to deal with the situation when the threat of closing the dormitory in Čankovice was imminent.

In the project, it was possible to successfully implement Act.No.1 – pre-school preparation – a total of 91 children and 70 parents were supported. Act.No.2 – help with school preparation - a total of 25 children and 16 parents supported. Act.No.3 – employed 3 obl. advisors at 0.5 for the entire
duration of the project. Within Act.No.4 managed to implement a total of 59 events (f. clubs and class m.). Act.No.5 – the number of municipalities involved was 4 and institutions 7. In Act.No.6 – a total of 10 trips were made. Preventive activities (Act.No.7) – speech therapy support(total 192.5h) and dental hygiene(26h). Act.No.8 – Teaching assistant course – not one course could be completed. 44 prof. trainings and supervisions took place. From Act.No.9 mandatory elements of publicity were fulfilled (signs, flyers, project www, public infotmation about the project), and then contributions on social media, 3 press releases issued. Act.No.10 – management throughout the implementation period in the same composition.

The purpose of the project was achieved by involving 91 children in preschool and pedagogical support and the activation of a total of 70 parents. The result is a change in the cooperation between parents and the team of project, successful enrollments in elementary sch., positive feedback from school fac., etc. In add., they are mastered challenges - correction of speech therapists defects, increasing vocabulary, etc. On the parent''s side, there was a noticeable development in his competences.

The project brought hope for a change in the position of the Roma, where the goal was to strengthen equal and fair treatment, with respect for their civic and national identity. The change in the lives of the indiv. or the community came slowly – we witnessed the power of the community itself, and also the reality when you experience success. That has started gives hope for the continuation of the high-quality consumption of the majority and the minority, all with an emphasis on mutual respect.
