Description

An online discussion Protecting a Child will be organized by the National Courts Administration, which will bring together judiciary, police and prosecutors of Lithuania and Norway, as well as Lithuanian legislators and international organisations. The discussion is planned to be focused on helping children with direct or eye-witnessing experience of violence, who are involved in legal processes. The topics related to lockdown effect on domestic violence, proper representation of children‘s interest in legal proceedings, interviewing a child and better inter-institutional cooperation for child

Summary of the results

On 1 June, 2021 (International Day for Protection of Children) an online discussion Protecting a Child was organized by the National Courts Administration, which brought together judiciary, police and prosecutors of Lithuania and Norway, as well as Lithuanian legislators and international organisations. The discussion focused on helping children with direct or eye-witnessing experience of violence, who are involved in legal processes. The topics related to lockdown effect on domestic violence, proper representation of children‘s interest in legal proceedings, interviewing a child and better inter-institutional cooperation for child-friendly justice were addressed at the discussion. The importance of social services that are necessary to enable a child to deal with the negative experience was also highlighted by the participants of the discussion.
