Description
The project restores and improves the status of wetlands of National Nature Reserve (NNR) Klátovské rameno, southwestern Slovakia (at least 150000 m2 of wetland area). Wetland restoration will include water regime improvement (hydrological regime modifications, sediment removal, litter remediation) and management of degraded wetland biotopes (mapping and remediation of invasive species). Microclimate of area of concern, living conditions of protected species, living quality of inhabitants of surrounding municipalities will improve and recreational potential of the site will increase. Water management-environmental study and landscape-ecological study/analysis elaborated by Project Promoter in cooperation with Project Partners will lead to update of Management Plan of the site and compilation of Manual on invasive species management. Both materials will serve as a guide for further sustainable wetland management. New educational trail will increase public awareness on degraded wetland ecosystem restoration in terms of climate change.
The basic target group of project is environment itself in terms of expected wetland improvement and mitigation of negative impacts of climate change. Further target groups are children and pupils of primary and secondary schools in surrounding municipalities. Project aims to educate them on the importance of the local wetland in terms of climate change and change their behaviour in terms “to feel responsible for” and be active in wetland preservation and management. Youth organization will take care of the local wetland Klátovské rameno. Students of universities and teachers will benefit too, due to valuable data reached and management practises analysed. State Nature Conservancy of the Slovak Republic as policy-related authority (public organisation) will benefit from project materials - Management plan and Manual on invasive species management during wetland preservation and management.
