Description

This project intends to react on the problems of families living in hostels and in social excluded localities in Ostrava city. These families are distinguished by low monetary resources, debts, inconvenient living conditions and so on. Above mentioned problems have essential impact on children´s lives - they have often problems with school attendance, study results and upbringing problems. The main target group is constituted by families with children living in socially excluded localities or in hostels. The aim of the project is to strengthen the families through focused direct help, case conferences, discussions and counselling and thus make the parents be able to ensure the protection of their children. During the realization of project we will support about one hundred families. The impact of this project will be on the stabilization of families, ensuring of appropriate housing and strengthening of parental skills.

Summary of project results

The project brings intensive support to 100 families with children from catchment areas of Moravia – Silesian region that are not able to ensure protection and rights of their children themselves. The main target was to help parents that are in risk of losing their children. Throughout the course of the project families have been supported by empowerment of their parental competencies and create more decent conditions. The most commonly solved problems have been the upbringing of the children, return of the children from the institutional care back to the parents or the family, accommodation and overall improvement of the situation of the children. All the activities have been held in close cooperation with the relevant Authority for Social and Legal Protection of Children. We have cooperated with 116 families (314 children), 38 families have individual action plan under the agenda of the Authority for Social and Legal Protection of Children. The overall amount of interventions while assisting the families has been 4 329. We organised 7 public discussions with the participation of psychologist that were aimed at strengthening of parental competencies. We have elaborated 7 information materials out of the discussions. We have prepared two methodologies “Identification of Endangered Children and Assessment of the Family Situation” and “Individual Plan for Protection of a child in Cooperation with the Authority for Social and Legal Protection of Children”. All the documents are accessible to general public.
