Description

The State of the World Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture Report, warns to the loss of planet''s biodiversity which poses serious threat to the future of our food, resources, health and environment. The widespread use of hybrid seeds in agriculture also contributes to increase the poverty of seed varieties. Seed banks are indispensable because of the great diversity of plants they comprise, and an excellent tools for promoting knowledge about biological diversity and can demonstrate a direct link between the evolutionary processes of plants and their uses over time, such as food production

Summary of the results

Following the results-based management approach, the initiative aimed to contribute to the dissemination of seed conservation processes through the Portuguese educational environment and knowledge institutions, involving schools and teachers from different educational levels.

The activities included two online workshops, with a wide range of participants, as well as the preparation of a Good Practice Manual, freely available and free of charge and free of charge, allowing the dissemination and reuse of this knowledge to all citizens, contributing to social citizens, contributing to social development through the use of sustainable practices in Portuguese schools sustainable practices in Portuguese schools and in individual daily life.
