Description

Our society is dealing with grave problems such as drug addicted parents who either cannot or do not want to look after their children as much as they should. Such parents are in danger of having their children taken away by government. The children are usualy adopted by different parents - so called substitional family care. The aim of this project is to encourage parents to undergo ambulant rehab, change of life-style and creation of proper daily routine. We focus on decreasing the number of children and youth who are being placed in residential homes and support the functioning of family as such. We will achieve this through ambulant addictology services. The AAS programe is designed for addicted parents and children (15-18 years old) as there is none adictology service for them at all in our region.

Summary of project results

Usti nad Labem region has the second highest number of problematic drug users in the Czech Republic in the long time period. The drug issue negatively affects all age groups. There wasn´t any specific service offering complex therapeutic help aimed at the whole stabilisation of the client, family support, help for the youth and young parents dealing with drug addiction.Target groups: young people from the age of 15 and parents at risk of drug addiction, who are not able (thanks to the drug abuse) to care about their children. The main aim of the project was to create an independent professional social service with a multidisciplinary team that will provide clients with therapeutic and counselling services. We wanted to achieve support for clients who abstain from drugs in their natural environment in order to reduce the number of children and adolescents placed in institutional care. We have created a unique independent service (Ambulant Addictology Services - AAS). A new room was reconstructed and obtained permission to provide health services (Addictology is a new category of health discipline). In the last 12 months AAS was contacted by parents with drug issues in 509 cases and by youth with drug issues in 86 cases. The individual psychotherapy was provided in 290 cases. We have also provided our clients with psychiatric care aimed at the abstinence support in the frame of substitution program.
