Description
The project is planned to be implemented between April 1, 2022 and September 30, 2023 by the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin in institutional partnership with Bifröst University (BU) from Iceland. The aim of the project is to increase the level of education and improve administrative service for students and to exchange experiences in the methodology of conducting teaching classes, with particular emphasis on distance learning classes.
An estimated number of 23 mobilities are planned in the project.
Summary of project results
The aim of the project was to increase the level of education and improve administrative service for students and to exchange experiences in the methodology of conducting teaching classes, with particular emphasis on distance learning classes.
A total of 23 employees, including teaching and administrative staff from both universities, participated in the mobilities planned in the project. A total of 16 project promoter employees underwent mobilities to Bifrost University (including 1 training and didactic mobility and 15 training mobilities). 7 Bifrost University employees underwent mobilities to Poland (including 2 teaching mobilities and 5 training mobilities).
The result of the mobility of employees of both universities was the development of the report "Good practices in distance and hybrid teaching" (Polish and English versions). Several dozen specific tips on how to improve the quality of teaching. The report is publicly available on the department''s website. Thanks to this, more people will be able to benefit from the effect of cooperation and the durability of the project effect will increase. Moreover, at Maria Sklodowska Curie University aparticipants of mobility trips from the Faculty of Economics developed a tool in the form of an .xls file for estimating ECTS points assigned to specific activities during classes. The tool has been made available to all students and lecturers of the Faculty of Economics. The importance of the project results primarily from its contribution to raising the level of education and improving administrative services. The implementation of the project strengthened the competences and knowledge of the scientific, teaching and administrative staff who participated in the project.
The exchange of experiences with Bifrost allowed to learn about the functionalities and applications of advanced remote teaching tools, which may be invaluable in the face of growing requirements for digital education. Thanks to this, new solutions can be implemented at the university in order to improve the quality of education, but also to increase the accessibility of education to a wider group of recipients.
The project will improve admin services. students. Transferring knowledge and good practices from BU will enable the development of more effective procedures, which in turn will contribute to improving student satisfaction and the effectiveness of university management.
Experience gained in identifying and motivating students and preventing dropout may contribute to reducing dropout rates.
The project made it possible to take a closer look at the education quality assurance systems at various levels, which is necessary in the context of continuous improvement of the educational offer and adaptation to international standards.
Moreover, participation in the project made it possible to strengthen relationships both within the teams representing the university, but also to establish new contacts with employees of the partner university.
Another benefit for Poland is that employees saw the potential in creating (additional) teaching materials as a form of support for the entire learning process.
Summary of bilateral results
The cooperation with Bifröst University should be assessed positively, it was successful and was a key element of the project''s success. Success was achieved despite the problems encountered on the partner''s side. During the project, three different people at Bifrost served as International Office Project Manager, and there was also a period when this position was vacant, which made it difficult to determine the planned dates and scope of mobility. This contributed to the delay of the first departures. Moreover, in 2023, the Icelandic university decided to switch to 100% remote teaching, which made it difficult to carry out the originally planned lectures by teachers from the project promotoer in Iceland. Despite the above-mentioned difficulties, the main goal of the project was achieved, which was the exchange of experiences and good practices between universities. The benefits of bilateral cooperation include, among others: easier planning and implementation of project activities thanks to having a partner whose employees are perfectly familiar with the national education system. Another advantage is the ability to empirically verify the course of administrative processes and didactic at the partner university. Joint activities led not only to an improvement in the level of knowledge and learning but also enabled a more complete understanding of the differences in educational needs of students from the partner country. Cooperation with BU allowed for the exchange of experiences and good practices, which is invaluable in the context of improving the level of educ. and improvements to admin service. The benefit was the ability to safely observation and learning from experts who use modern teaching methods, especially in distance learning. The initiated cooperation has a good chance of being continued in terms of staff exchange (administrator and didactic), as well as in the creation of applications for didactic projects. (and maybe also scientific ones).
