Description
The project allows for increased mobility in higher education between the University of Warsaw and four universities in Norway: the University of South-Eastern Norway, the University of Bergen, University of Oslo and Østfold University College. The project will be carried out in the scope of:
a. Student mobility:
- Outgoing mobilities of Polish students to University of South-Eastern Norway, University of Bergen, University of Oslo and Østfold University College and incoming mobilities of students from these Norwegian universities for study periods lasting from 3 to 12 months within an academic year,
- Outgoing mobilities of Polish students to Norway and incoming mobilities of students from Norway for work placements from lasting from 2 to 12 months within an academic year.
b. Staff mobility:
- Teaching assignment-based mobilities of academic teachers between Polish University of Warsaw and four Norwegian universities for a period of between one day and six weeks (a minimum of eight hours of teaching at the partner institution must be provided during one week of mobility).
- Higher education staff mobility between Poland and Norway for job shadowing, participation in seminars, training, workshops and conferences aimed at improving skills and expanding knowledge in a given field for a period of between one day and six weeks.
Expected results include the professional development of staff working in the field of higher education and improved quality and relevance of the educational offerings in the field of higher education.
Summary of project results
he implementation of the project at the University of Warsaw (UW), in Component II, was necessary due to the need to enhance and continue the cooperation and build a network of long-term partnerships in the Donor States. The importance of the Programme Education also lies in the fact that it creates attractive educational opportunities for people interested in academic exchange with institutions in Donor States and improving their competences. The main goal of the project: building long-term academic partnerships between the project promoter and institutions from the Donor States. The project partners were: University of South-Eastern Norway (USN), University of Bergen (UoB), University of Oslo (UoO), Ostfold University College (OUC), University of Iceland (UoI).
As a result of the project, the participants strengthened their linguistic, methodological and practical competences and gained unique experience. Thanks to the inclusion of a new university from the Donor States with which the UW had not cooperated before, cooperation have been established, which may result in new, interesting projects in the near future. During the training stay at the Polish University, the representatives of the Donor States institution learned about the functioning of the Faculty of Management, Faculty of History, Faculty of Economics, Welcome Point and the International Relations Office of the Warsaw University.
The project undoubtedly influenced the development of intercultural competences of the participants, deepen their knowledge of the social and cultural changes that have taken place in Poland and their impact on contemporary society, culture and language, as well as expand the spectrum of analytical possibilities regarding the social and cultural phenomena that constitute European identity. The exchange of students under the Programme Education is extremely important as well, as it creates wider opportunities for participants not only to use a high level of educational services, but also to get to know the host country and establish long-term interpersonal contacts. The participation of the Warsaw University in the Programme Education is important because the Program offers attractive financial conditions that open up wider opportunities for education, development of professional competences, and gaining experience; it helps to eliminate economic and social differences and strengthen bilateral relations between the participating countries.
Summary of bilateral results
All partner institutions are important academic centers in the Donor States and cooperation with them is one of the priority tasks for the project promoter as one of the largest universities in Poland. The student exchange with the Faculty of Law at University of Bergen created excellent opportunities for students to acquire new knowledge and experience in the functioning of the legal systems of Norway and Polish legal systems. Students developed their competences in the field of their scientific interests. Additionally, due to the high level of English proficiency among the local community in Norway, the students improved their language skills. Inclusion of University of South-Eastern Norway as a new partner in the project contributed to establishing good scientific and administrative contacts, mutual training visits helped participants acquire knowledge about various models of university functioning, improve competences in serving foreign students, establish contacts that may contribute to joint projects in the future, it is planned intensification of academic exchange. After the visit of the University of South-Eastern Norway representative to the UW the willingness to cooperate more broadly with the Faculties of Management, Economics and History of the UW was declared. The exchange with UoI resulted in strengthened cooperation in the field of teaching Polish as a foreign language in Iceland, where Poles constitute one of the largest ethnic groups.After mutual visits, it was agreed that the UW and UoI intended to apply for funds from external sources to implement joint projects.Cooperation with all universities will continue in the coming years.
