Description

To protect the population from the consequences of a changing climate, it is crucial that the expected impacts of climate change on buildings are analyzed, and that adaptation and mitigation measures are suggested and implemented. Despite its importance, the issue of building adaptation to climate changes has not yet been developed in the Czech Republic. The project will bring unique outputs that are currently not available. The aim of the project is to support the government and local governments in the risk analysis and to propose actions for the adaptation of buildings to climate change. The project also aims to support the incorporation of the proposed measures in the Strategy of adaptation to the climate change in the Czech Republic and the related Action plan for it, especially the contribution to the expert discussion and thus the actual implementation of individual measures. The project result will be a draft national strategy for the adaptation of buildings to climate change, which will be discussed with the government and stakeholders. The competent authority of the state administration will benefit from the project and will be part of it. The project has no donor partner.

Summary of project results

The Czech Republic started the process of preparing its strategy for adaptation to climate change in 2014 and subsequently preparing an action plan for its implementation. However, the area of buildings in which we spend 90% of our time has not yet been mapped in detail. All of the project's results were a new asset to the state administration's debate on adaptation to climate change, particularly in the building sector, and are highly valued in the debate. They are now part of the relevant strategy papers. A notable result of the project is also the fact that the state administration has been able to discuss and express itself on the topic of building adaptation to climate change. It can be said that the capacity of the state administration and other interested groups, was clearly strengthened by this project. The results of the project include, for example, a macroeconomic study evaluating the costs and benefits of implementing individual scenarios of renovation and adaptation of buildings to climate change. New climate scenarios were also prepared specifically for the Czech Republic. A set of building and technical measures has been prepared to ensure that the building is not overheated, energy-efficient, gentle with water, has healthy indoor environments and a positive environment for its surroundings. There were also prepared political, legislative and economic instruments to implement these measures in practice. Building measures have not been developed prior the project implementation, but it is absolutely crucial to adapt the company to climate change. Without the implementation of the project, the state administration would not have expert and debated documents for qualified decisions.
