Description

The project responds to a situation where the Czech Republic will approve and then implement the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change, however the Czech Republic lacks some basic preconditions for the successful implementation of such a strategy. The project aims especially to raise awareness in the general public and the awareness and preparedness of the public administration to implement meaningful adaptation measures. The resulting communication campaign will respond not only to the lack of factual information, but it will also take into account possible barriers among the Czech public in relation to the issue of adaptation to climate change, which have not been examined so far and which could endanger the successful implementation of the information campaign. The project therefore includes a campaign consisting i.a. of the creation of a central web interface, and the collection and dissemination of examples of good practice on adaptation measures in the regions. The general public as well as public administration staff and researchers are those who would benefit from this project. The project has no donor partner.

Summary of project results

The stated objective of the project was to find the missing prerequisites for optimal implementation of adaptation measures on climate change in the Czech Republic. Within the project was devoted considerable space of information gathering, ie research of entry conditions for realization of communication campaign. The researches and analysis carried out provided essential backgrounds and information for the communication campaign. The research results were presented and discussed with representatives of public administration and citizens at regional round tables and at the final project conference. The public was acquainted with the results of research through media reports of press conferences and prepared popularizing articles. Methodologies and recommendations for the development of adaptation strategies were continuously consulted with representatives of the Ministry of the Environment. Based on the agreement, a model action plan for hot waves and other related calculations was also prepared. The communication campaign was focused on public administration at the regional and central level and on the general public. The campaign highlighted the benefits of well-adapted adaptation measures and increased awareness, preparedness and motivation of public administration at regional and national level to develop adaptation plans and their subsequent implementation. Organized Competition The Adaptation Measures of the Year had a strong positive response which allowed to collect and further disseminate good practice examples of adaptation measures from the regions. Created animated videos were targeted at representatives of the general public, posing positive examples of adaptation measures to climate change.
