Description

The negative attitudes of the majority society towards Roma prevails in Slovakia. The aim of the project is to contribute to the reduction of discrimination and the elimination of prejudice against the Roma. This goal will be pursued through the production of 4 films and 12 podcasts about the Roma, which will be presented in a virtual space, in schools and in community centres. The films will bring an undistorted view of the lives of Roma teenagers, their possibilities and abilities. The other category of films are films about Roma who have found employment in society and are an example for the Roma and non-Roma public. The project uses modern online tools to provide a realistic picture of people from marginalized Roma communities in order to alleviate tensions between the Roma minority and the majority and to alleviate the negative attitude and prejudices of the majority society. The applicant implements the project in the 2nd call with a Roma minority as a target group as well, but with a different focus.

Summary of project results

The goal of the project was bringing the real world of the Roma closer to people, bringing a true picture of them and thus helping to break down prejudices in society. To achieve this, we decided to create podcasts and films - to highlight those who are successful in life. We consider success when a Roma manages to integrate into society, to be accepted by the majority, to be independent in securing their living conditions. We  also aimed to inspire other Roma to the path of a better life. The main results are 4 films that bring a different perspective on Roma life. As part of the project, also 12 podcasts have been created so far, in which we bring information from the world of Roma. The importance of the project is mainly long-term, as we cannot evaluate their contribution in general during the short time of presentation of the production. Breaking down prejudices is a long-term issue, so we want to continue the activities of the project. Overall, 751 people participated in project activities.
