Description

The project aims at strengthening and supporting the non-profit Organization for Aid to Refugees (OPU), which has
been helping to refugees and foreigners in difficult situations since 1991, focusing on vulnerable clients. The hectic
OPU ́s work in a difficult environment during and affter the so called refugee crisis led to the situation of huge
weaknesses in internal procedures. Our goal is to support and develop OPU internally in the today''s most pressing areas. In the future, these areas may weaken or even threaten the effectiveness of the OPU work for refugees, foreigners and Czech public. Project activities are: 1) management of OPU - 10 trained and personally developed managers, created innovative organizational structure, new methodology for employee substitutability, creation of a system of monitoring work efficiency, 8 positive mediated stories; 2) created database of supporters in accordance with GDPR, created rules for communication with donors and future donors in the form of methodology; 3) new methodology containing the setting of competencies in financial and personnel matters of the OPU, a new system of registration of contracts and their amendments, including other employment law.

Summary of project results

The project was aimed at supporting the training of managers, including coaching guidance. Other OPU staff were also involved in the training and received training according to their needs and the needs of the organization. Efforts have been made to address manager overload. The project also sought to set up appropriate management of employment contracts and performance agreements.  The project also focused on fundraising and migration of data within the ARUM client database to a higher level in terms of online security. The overall impact of the project was generally positive. Management coaching and support for the organization''s fundraising had the biggest impact.  From the experience gained coaching has improved the work of managers. Coaching has also contributed to more effective leadership in the organization, which has manifested itself in managerially well managed crisis of the organisation (related to the war in Ukraine). At the same time, the management team has become more stable. The OPU will continue to support the leadership, as the project has also found that stable leadership means a stable organisation and happier staff. Fundraising support has enabled us to set up the functioning of fundraising staff and to steer the organisation in this area. At the same time, thanks to the direction in support of the leadership, the focus has shifted to the endowment supporting the team. This was a successful application for a foreign grant, which supports the management of the OPU in the future as such in terms of funding for salaries and training. The two areas were thus conveniently linked to each other and made it possible to have a more stable organization.  The project also had a positive impact on individual employees, who were able to receive individual training according to their needs and the needs of the OPU, of which they then benefited from when working with clients. Better security of the ARUM client database was also important.
