Description

The project plans to achieve social movement and to start discussions not only at the professional level but also with young people within education. It raises the question of how to live without prejudice, equally, to draw attention to stereotypes and prejudices. The project is a system of measures and activities that systematically educate and raise awareness of gender equality. It consists of a qualitative and quantitative (questionnaire) survey of the legitimization strategies of gender equality in different communities from the maternity centres leaders’ perspective, a series of workshops at 25 primary and secondary schools, including the elaboration of an interactive methodology, as well as sensitizing access to women and excluding any form of violence in people-to-people relations. Project also creates a series of round tables for local NGO leaders, politicians and socially responsible businesses, but also experts in the field sociology and economics and consits of Invisible Women campaign, in the form of a series of blogs, infographics, viral videos on social networks that will sensitize public opinion towards the perception of real discrimination in society and the possibility of change. The project aims to describe the processes by which society becomes fairer without discriminating against its citizens on the basis of gender or race. In particular, its benefit is that it works with the life stories of people who have gone through different phases in which they have felt differently in their own lives, in their own careers – it uses good/bad examples. Terms such as inclusion, antidiscrimination or gender rights are given back their true meaning. The project partner Freedom of choice will participate in supervision processes that will lead to the best possible setting of methodological procedures in the compilation of documents (questionnaires, interview structures, documents for education), as well as in the education of project implementers.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to address the gender inequality, social stereotypes and insufficient recognition of women´s contribution to society. The project was being implemented across Slovakia’s network of Maternity centers, with a focus on educating individuals and promoting awareness of gender equality as a fundamental value. The project focused also on communities near marginalized groups.  Overall, the project aimed to move society toward greater empathy, understanding  by promoting the recognition and support of women''s roles in all aspects of life, starting from early childhood education.

The Women in the Community project sought to promote the societal value of women and mothers. It explored the historical evolution of the women''s movement, highlighted the roles of active women in contemporary society and  women''s contributions to social progress.

Through video storytelling, the project presented  invaluable work of female leaders in maternity centers, drawing attention to their immeasurable impact. Training sessions were conducted to initiate discussions about the importance of supporting women and mothers, emphasizing the need to recognize their contributions as equally valuable to those of men.

The project also produced the book Women in the Community, which serves as a lasting resource within the library of the women''s movement. Additionally, the project developed a publication aimed at teaching adults how to foster sensitivity toward social diversity. Recognizing that such values are more easily embraced in childhood, the project also focused on educating parents about teaching inclusivity and acceptance to young children.

The Women in the Community project achieved significant results by raising awareness about gender equality and importance of women´s contributions to the society.  The project highlighted the importance of preserving and strenghtening Maternity Centers. and similar organizations dedicated to supporting women, mothers and families.

The project fostered connections with members of parliament, opening avenues for dialogue and potential support for meeting the needs of women. It emphasized the necessity for advocating activities with state institutions to secure legal recognition and financial stability for Maternity centers.

Additionally, the project  raised societal awareness of the importance of women''s activities and leadership, encouraging pride in their achievements. However, it also stressed the need for greater consistency in electing women to political positions to ensure meaningful representation and support for women’s issues at the policy level.
