Description
The necessity for the project’s implementation is mainly oriented towards the improvement of the citizen’s quality of life, environmental protection and energy savings, the battle of the climate crisis and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The Municipality is an active member of European/ National initiatives on the promotion of Sustainability and Sustainable Urban Mobility (EGTC Efxini Poli, Inter-Municipal Network of Healthy Cities, Sustainable City, CIVITAS). It also participates in the national effort to adopt and harmonize with European initiatives regarding environmental protection and energy resources reduction.
The project aims to lower the Municipality’s energy footprint, through the reduction of the energy consumption in school buildings by using more energy efficiency measures.
The project consists of the following sub-projects. First, the construction of roof insulation. Second, the supply of heat pumps, luminaires and lighting systems, Renewable Energy Savings and measuring and recording equipment. Third, consulting services for the implementation of communication actions. Fourth, consulting services for the project’s implementation.
The project plans to achieve energy efficiency targets tailored for the building sector. Targets include the reduction of energy consumption by using less energy consuming systems. The project also intends to promote energy savings to the general public.
The Municipality’s citizens, the buildings’ users, the area’s visitors and the school community are expected to benefit from the project. In particular, pupils of the five school buildings under study and the educational staff and employees of the two service buildings. The expected benefits are the following. First, energy and resources savings will be achieved. Second, these savings will also offset the overall energy consumption of the Municipality. Third, greenhouse emissions will be reduced. Fourth, the buildings’ comfort conditions will be improved.
