Description
The project is needed for the following reasons. First, to provide adequate school infrastructure and ensure thermal comfort conditions for primary and secondary school students. Second, to improve the community’s quality of life. Third, to maintain the proper operation of the area’s municipal buildings. Fourth, to reduce the buildings’ energy operating costs and improve their energy footprint.
The project aims to implement a targeted energy upgrade of four municipal buildings trying to resolve educational and social needs and to ensure almost zero energy consumption.
The project consists of the following sub-projects. First, the energy upgrade interventions and measuring and monitoring equipment in the municipal buildings of Orestiada. Second, the energy upgrade interventions and measuring and monitoring equipment in the municipal buildings of Didymoteicho. Third, the energy upgrade interventions and measuring and monitoring equipment in municipal buildings of Soufli. Fourth, the dissemination, networking and publicity actions for the Project of the Municipality of Orestiada. Fifth, the project’s technical consulting.
The project plans to achieve concrete primary energy savings targets, a decrease of CO2 emissions and an increase of the renewable energy consumption on a yearly basis.
The local community of North Evros is expected to benefit from the project. Namely, the target beneficiaries will be the buildings’ users, visitors and wider public trained by relevant awareness campaigns. The expected benefits are summarized as follows. First, the use of Renewable Energy Sources. Second, saving primary energy and reducing CO2 emissions in the local communities through rational use of resources and energy management. Third, environmental protection and climate change mitigation. Fourth, improving the resident’s and visitor’s quality of life. Fifth, supporting the local development in economic terms by boosting employment and promoting innovation.
