Description

The multi-genre and interdisciplinary project will contribute to professional growth of Czech and Icelandic musicians who will co-produce a music record which will be released digitally. Each song will reflect and be inspired by a locality in the CR and Iceland affected by climate change and will be composed in those localities while using field recording as a method best suitable to capture the sound of an environment. For each composition the artists will team up with scientists, researchers and members of local communities to identify environmental, cultural and social challenges emerging in selected localities, which have become dysfunctional as a result of human activity. Based on research and informative excursions, the environmentally, socially, economically, or culturally substandard and depleted localities will inspire music and sound improvisations, which will lay foundations for studio recordings, and give the local communities an impulse to further interact with the localities. As a result of the project a better understanding of countryside ecosystems will be fostered among the locals and general public by means of art works and a large-scale media campaign.

The album will be presented live at concerts and will be accompanied by complementary outcomes (website, podcasts, music video, visuals, film).

By interconnecting the art world with the social perspective, the project will contribute to professional development of both Czech and Icelandic musicians. The project partnership is based not only on a unique collaborative objective with a social impact but also on innovative approaches to the music production and distribution, promotion, and audience activation.

The project will allow the artists to grow their audience and renown, highlight a new model for interdisciplinary contemporary art creation, and cultivate the music industry by sharing the know-how in 2 workshops (focusing on technical skills and creative production and management).

Summary of project results

The project enabled the creation of unique artworks responding to scientific knowledge about climate collapse and contributed to expansion of artistic practice of the artists involved through innovative and int’l. collaborations, who gained greater stability within their profession. The project''s artistic outputs offered audiences new avenues to a deeper understanding of environmental issues. Sharing experiences with interdisciplinary collaboration helped to innovate the music industry.

Complementary experience and contact networks of the partners were crucial for the planning, creative process, outputs and the PR strategy. A research of locations suitable for illuminating the complexity of the climate crisis and 2 informative excursions to 8 selected sites in CZ and IS were a
crucial moment for the group of scientists and artists for interdisciplinary exchange and input for the subsequent production of outputs.

The AV materials arising from excursions were the basis for a variety of artworks. During production and post-production, our knowledge of the specific form of the emerging works allowed project promoter to develop and better target the promotion of the project. The digital publishing of the outputs and the live performances complemented each other, generating interest from diverse media and audiences. Together with the workshops, to bring the benefits of iinterdisciplinary coop. to artistic community and to share acquired project management and sound know-how.

It contributed to building the capacity of artists who have tested interd. collab., innovated their practice & expanded portfolio to incl. works of artistic and social value and established interdisciplinary partnerships, which supported their future work locally and intern. Thanks to a wide media campaign (a total of 39 outputs), dig. platforms and multi-genre distribution, the public (25,497 people) was introduced to themes related to deprived places in the Czech Republic and Iceland.

The interdisciplinary collaboration in developing the project, producing and distributing its outputs, and executing the communication campaign has established a robust platform for addressing socially pressing topics. This collaboration also fostered further creative opportunities for the participating artists. The artists involved acquired valuable new experiences and built connections that will benefit their future work. By sharing expertise with the artistic community through workshops and project-related communication, the initiative has enriched the art scene with fresh insights and experiences.

Summary of bilateral results

The main focus of the partnership was the complementary experience of the partners working in various fields of artistic practice (music, film, contemporary art), as well as contacts in the Czech Republic and Iceland. All three partners participated in creating the concept, selecting collaborators, and managing media campaigns and the strategy for distributing individual outputs. Thanks to their professional reputation, all three also participated in promoting the project through media interviews. The contacts of the Icelandic partner - Mr. Thorarensen - allowed project promoter to better plan trips to Iceland, orient PP in the local artistic and scientific scene, address experts and involve relevant Icelandic collaborators in the project (Magnus Bergsson), as well as address local media and select a suitable event for a live performance. Last but not least, the project stimulated creative cooperation between the partners, which continues even after the end of the monitoring period in the form of further work or the creation of conditions for further presentation of individual artistic work (Mr. Thorarensen has performed repeatedly in the Czech Republic).
