The project is primarily aimed at supporting Roma platforms, inclusion and strengthening of the position of Roma in the Czech Republic, especially in the Moravian-Silesian and Olomouc regions. To achieve this goal we aim to create platform of cooperation, implementation of educational activities aimed at gaining competencies supporting Roma integration, activities supporting community work, activities helping to create a positive image of Roma people, presentation of good practice and transfer of experience coexistence of Roma people with the majority.
The purpose of the project is to strengthen the inclusion and position of the Roma people through dialogue. The cooperation platform will ensure the participation of the Roma minority at the local level (Opava, Krnov, Moravský Beroun). The integrity of the project''s activities will contribute to the empowerment and activation of the Roma. We will also focus on strengthening the expertise of employees with this target group, strengthening community work at the local level, strengthening cooperation between the majority and the minority in public events and promoting project. The project is based on current needs and problems of integration of the Roma minority, identified both in the field and in negotiations with stakeholders (NGOs, cities, schools, etc.). We draw on the implementation from existing experience, from the concepts of local community plans and strategies, the Strategy of Roma Integration until 2020 and others.
We see the importance of partnership with pro-Roma NGOs in mutual support, complementarity and sharing of experience between different localities. The importance of partnership with the participating cities will lie in the support of community work in the cities, participation in the platform of cooperation and publicity. The Silesian University in Opava will make a significant contribution by facilitating platform meetings, creating a methodological concept for the platform and lecturing.
Summary of project results
The project was needed to promote the inclusion of Roma and improve their status. Through a platform, workshops and training, the project promoter aimed to better integrate Roma and create a positive image. The project promoter faced challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, which required a transition to online formats. Maintaining motivation and cooperation between people was also a challenge. Despite all the obstacles, the key activities of the project were successfully implemented.
In the project, a platform for cooperation between the Roma and the majority was created, in which all partners, including Roma representatives, participated. The project promoter implemented community work, seasonal events, trips, workshops, trainings and courses to improve Roma integration, promoted community work and built a positive image of Roma through the presentation of good practices and public events with the majority. These activities were key to promoting Roma inclusion, improving their position in society and strengthening mutual understanding. They have also contributed to eliminating prejudice and improving cooperation between Roma and the majority.
The main outputs of the project include 7 shared examples of good practice, methodological recommendations, TV spot, press articles and press releases, 26 training activities, 12 meetings of the cooperation platform. The project promoter considers the number of people involved in community work - 316 and the total number of Roma affected by the project''s activities - 1689 as a success. The project brought new knowledge and competences to the end users, better access to basic rights and empowerment in society. The project promoted Roma inclusion and empowerment, which is in line with the goal of social integration and reducing inequalities. It focused on creating a platform for cooperation between Roma and the majority, implementing workshops and training for better integration. It also promoted community work and improved mutual understanding. In the long term, it will contribute to strengthening inter-community relations, eliminating prejudices and improving tolerance in society.
