Description

R8tech is an Estonian software company that has developed a fast-integrating software solution for shopping malls, hotels and offices that can set the optimal indoor climate of a building with one click and achieve an average saving of 13.5% of the building''s overall energy costs by optimizing heating, ventilation and cooling systems. The R8tech digital operator uses software to combine cooling, heating, ventilation and indoor climate in large buildings and uses artificial intelligence to control all of the existing BMS (Building Management System), taking into account, for example, weather forecasting and electricity exchange prices.

The project will develop a climate panel regulating the indoor climate of buildings, which will allow to increase the average savings from the building''s energy costs by up to 20% (6.5% increase compared to the situation before the project). As a result of the project, customers of R8tech''s digital operator will be able to see the impact of climate change on energy consumption. The creation of the climate panel will also have an important impact on the fulfilment of the company''s sales forecasts, creating simple levers for sales representatives to demonstrate the work of R8tech''s digital operator to customers.

Summary of project results

Project tackled the challenge with the energy costs of big shopping malls, hotels and offices that are looking for optimising heating, ventilation and cooling systems. For this, artificial intelligence was used to control all of the existing Building Management Systems, taking into account weather forecasting and electricity exchange prices.

Project Promoter has developed an innovative system that utilises artificial intelligence to regulate indoor climate and optimise energy usage. This fosters energy savings and intelligent electricity consumption. R8 Digital Operator Jenny is a human-centric AI solution that helps achieve global real estate climate neutrality.

In the project, all developed models and algorithms were implemented as a part of R8 digital operator software. The control elements in the climate panel are the temperature control graph, allowed differences from the target temperature, and air quality level:
• The temperature control graph includes winter and summer set points.
• The current target temperature is calculated according to the control graph with an interpolation method based on the current outdoor temperature.
• Allowed difference from the target temperature.
• CO2 comfort level as the ability to change the fan speed by increasing or decreasing the allowable CO2.

Project focused on developing the climate panel that allows to adjust the indoor climate in the specific zones (office rooms, entrances, etc.) or for the entire building. This way the building owner can get a better understanding of the savings potential in the building and fine tune the system if needed, according to the needs rather than to the formal standards. This gives the building manager with a one-of-a-kind tool that will allow to understand the impact that modifying the key features related to the indoor climate will have on the overall HVAC system of the building as well as the impact that any potential changes will have on the amount of energy that the building will use.
