Description

This project will create and present to the general public an innovative acting performance “Choices” that will communicate human and multicultural values through modern and contemporary art. The actors will present the play but the audience will participate in it. “Choices” presents 6 stories about different social layers and European cultures. In each story, the main character is given a choice. The audience determines what decision the character shall take and according to this choice, the actors present one of the two storylines prepared for each of the stories. At the end the actors select volunteers among the audience to rehearse and present the same performance or part of it to their fellow citizens and friends over a two-month period.

The impact of the show and its innovative vision are guaranteed by the experience of one of Norway''s most active cultural entrepreneurs, “Culture Break Borders”. The partner will assist in implementing an innovative approach in interweaving different arts – theatre, dance and music. The ambition is to reach a new level in Bulgarian theatre by taking the example of Norway. The show will feature both professional actors and amateurs. The creative team will select a young talented director to convey the message of the play, and the script will be entrusted to a professional. After intensive rehearsals and preparation, 10 performances will be performed on the outskirts of Sofia (Bulgaria) followed by 25 traveling performances to different small Bulgarian towns.

Summary of project results

The goal of the project is to implement an innovative  approach - a creative interweaving of different arts - theatre, dance, music. The ambition is to reach a new level in Bulgarian theatre by taking the example of Norway.

This project created and presented to the general public an innovative acting performance "Killer Flight" that communicates human and multicultural values through modern and contemporary art. The actors are presenting the play but the audience participates in it. The play presents 6 stories about different social groups and European cultures. In each story, the main character is given a choice. The audience determines what decision the character shall take and according to this choice, the actors present one of the two storylines prepared for each of the stories. The plot becomes entangled and the choices made trap the characters in tragic and comical situations that convey powerful messages to the audience for choosing what is good and just. At the end the actors select volunteers among the audience to rehearse and present the same performance or part of it to their fellow citizens and friends over a two-month period.

The performance created under the project aims to increase the appeal of contemporary stage art, to restaure cultural traditions, and revive the innate human interest in the spiritual richness presented on stage. Involving both professional actors and amateurs, the project increased the interest of young people in stage art.

Summary of bilateral results

The transfer of skills in cultural entrepreneurship from the Norwegian partner''s experience to local artists and organizations was crucial of the final outcome of the project and the final vision of the "Killer Flight" performance. The participation of the CULTURE BREAL BORDERS in the production and its involvement in interactive learning increased the team''s capacity and inspired them to continue to develop in the field of interactive art.
