Description
The need for intervention is given by the current state of the building, it can not ensure optimal conditions for arranging exhibition spaces with reference to the former Cavalry School and the "moment 1989", requiring complex works to bring the building to a higher degree and level of finishes but also the insurance of tourist interior / exterior circuits. The final beneficiaries of the investment are Romanian and foreign tourists. The target groups are: the inhabitants of Dambovita county, the tourists / visitors from Romania, the foreign tourists / visitors, the Dambovita County Council and the administrative staff within the museum space. The needs of the final beneficiaries converge due to the lack of exhibition spaces. The general objective of the project is "Conservation, restoration and capitalization of the Former Cavalry School Building in order to consolidate the cultural identity of Dâmbovița County in an innovative way through an integrated approach". The specific objectives of the project are: 1. Conservation and restoration of the building of the Former Cavalry School from Târgoviște, so as to preserve the uniqueness and historical significance by carrying out intervention works on the structure, architecture and installations of the building. 2. Promotion by organizing national and international cultural events and making an animated film with the theme "Romanian cavalry in history". 3. Valorization of the monument The former School of Cavalry by using its functionalities for the development of “Cultural Cafe” type events that should stimulate the economic and social development.
Summary of project results
The project aimed to tackle the urgent need for conservation and restoration of the Former Cavalry School building in Târgoviște, a site of significant historical and architectural value. In parallel with the restoration works, the project also sought to revitalize the space by organizing cultural events that engaged the local community and brought visibility to the site''s heritage. Additionally, an animated film titled "Romanian Cavalry in History" was produced, enriching public understanding of the building’s historical context.
The project carried out the full restoration of the Former Cavalry School building in Târgoviște, preserving its architectural integrity and historical significance. Alongside the restoration, a series of cultural and educational activities were implemented to reactivate the space and engage the public. These included the organization of 12 cultural cafés, along with two thematic cultural events. In addition, the project delivered a specialized training session and a guided walking event, designed to enhance public appreciation and knowledge of the site''s historical and cultural context.
The project generated significant cultural, social, and economic outcomes by restoring and revitalizing the Former Cavalry School in Târgoviște. The final beneficiaries include both Romanian and foreign tourists, who now have access to a newly restored heritage site and a more diverse cultural offering. The project''s target groups also encompassed the residents of Dâmbovița County, the Dâmbovița County Council, local administrative staff working within the museum space, and the broader visiting public.
By addressing the need for accessible and engaging exhibition spaces, the project not only preserved an important historical monument but also brought it back into public use. The restoration and associated cultural programming enhanced the visibility and value of the site, contributing to increased local pride, cultural engagement, and tourism potential. In the long term, the project is expected to stimulate both economic and social development in the region by transforming the Former Cavalry School into a vibrant cultural landmark.
