Description
The project proposal envisages the implementation of the energy saving measures prescribed in the prepared energy audit. efficiency of street lighting on 6 streets in Malko Tarnovo. According to the regulation, the following measures are envisaged: 1. Replacement of luminaires: A complete replacement of all luminaires with modern LEDs with reduced power losses is proposed. Using them will guarantee very accurate achievement of the set lighting characteristics with significantly less electricity consumed. 2. Introduction of an energy management and renewable energy system The development of smart street lighting is related to the deployment of Internet of Things technologies in the urban environment. This helps to improve the quality of life of the population, optimize costs and provide additional services through the associated lighting infrastructure. Internet of Things-connected systems allow you to adjust the amount of light according to atmospheric conditions, for example, or on a pre-set schedule for each day of the year. One of the most important benefits of this intelligent connectivity is the ability to increase security in the city by tailoring lighting to different emergencies such as road accidents. 3. Establishment of a system for monitoring energy consumption Remote sensing meters will be included in the system, allowing direct access to real-time reading of the energy consumed. 4. Establishment of a system for automation and management of energy consumption 5. Construction of a photovoltaic system to cover their own needs -Delivery and installation of 78 standalone photovoltaic lamps. After the implementation of the system the following improvements will be achieved: • Reduction of purchased energy from an external supplier; • Utilization of energy from a renewable energy source; • Ensuring energy independence; • High level of energy efficiency.
Summary of project results
The condition of the functioning lighting system, built from old high-pressure sodium lamps (HPS) with an installed power of 70 W, was extremely insufficient to meet modern lighting standards. The majority of the lighting fixtures were completely depreciated, with their efficiency significantly below regulatory requirements, which reflected the real degree of illumination of the street surface and led to significant unevenness. The lighting system''s starting devices were activated with a delay and led to increased energy losses. They were controlled by cassettes using pre-set clock mechanisms. Due to the high operating costs caused by the great distance between the devices, their readjustment was carried out up to twice a year - for summer and winter mode, which is extremely inefficient from an energy point of view. The cable network is overhead (single and double), built with aluminum cables, and in many places it is depreciated and has led to frequent accidents.

The planned activities lead to increase energy efficiency through technological upgrading and modernization of outdoor artificial lighting systems. • Increasing the energy efficiency of street lighting in the city of Malko Tarnovo; • Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions; • Reduction of the energy costs of the municipality; • Improving the quality of street lighting and increasing the percentage of light; • Improving road safety for drivers and pedestrians at night. • Increasing the production of energy from renewable sources; • Increasing the capacity of the beneficiary in the field of renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy management. In addition to reducing the direct costs of electricity from the implementation of the measures, financial savings from the reduction of the annual costs of operation and maintenance are implemented. These savings are due to the elimination of the need for lamp replacement and the much less frequent replacement of luminaires. In addition to reducing the direct costs to the Street Lighting Community, it improved the illumination of the streets, thereby improving the traffic conditions on the streets at night and reducing the number of accidents and crime on the streets.
Summary of bilateral results
Improved bilateral cooperation with interested stakeholders in the field of energy efficiency to present good practices and future development of the city and the municipality in this regard.
