Summary of project results

The Project "Adaptation to Climate Change in Mértola: Security of People and Goods and Tourism Sectors" aims to integrate the Intermunicipal Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change in Baixo Alentejo (PIAACBA) into sectoral planning and management instruments at local level (municipality of Mértola) in the "Security of People and Goods" and "Tourism" sectors.

The Project envisaged the production of two sectoral planning and management instruments, each with the production of a set of documents:

• Security of People and Goods in the Context of Climate Change: Guide for Action.

  • Action Plan for the Security of People and Goods Sector;
  • Mértola Municipal Civil Protection Emergency Plan;
  • Special Civil Protection Emergency Plan for the Historic Center of Mértola.

• Tourism in the Context of Climate Change: Guide to Action

  • Action Plan for the Tourism Sector;
  • Risk Management Plan for the Cultural Heritage of Mértola.

The main impacts expected from carrying out the Project were increased knowledge about the risks associated with climate change in Mértola; increased response capacity and resilience of the Municipality to the impacts of climate change in the Security of People and Goods and Tourism sectors; increased involvement and participation of the local community and other stakeholders in adapting to climate change and 1 municipality and 7 274 inhabitants benefited from sectoral adaptation instruments.
