Description
The issue is the urgency to respond to Climate Changes and its effects. The purpose is to produce a guiding and operational instrument to promote sustainable development and to reduce vulnerabilities regarding climate changes. The main expected impact of the Project is the reduction of vulnerability to climate change in the Municipality, and the results to be achieved are to develop 50% of all measures and actions in partnership with the Target Public* to integrate adaptation at sectoral level; and to cover 30% of the Municipality of Vila Franca de Xira population with adequate communication actions about the Plan, matters regarding climate change and its impacts and vulnerabilities.
Summary of project results
The Municipality of Vila Franca de Vila Franca de Xira Climate Change Adaptation Municipal Council for children/youths.The Municipality proposed to allocate the necessary funds for the implementation of Activity 1 and Project Management, ensuring that this change does not harm the initially contracted integrity of the Franc@d.PTação Project, also, the prosecutor informed that the implementation of phases 1 and 2 suffered some delay, due to the difficulty they had in collecting evidence of all weather events.
The tasks associated with Activity 1 – Preparation of the PMAAC VFX, and making an analogy with the budget lines, are, in addition to the preparation of the PMAAC VFX (monitoring the five phases of the Plan, meetings with the contracted CEDRU team and acceptance of reports), also the tasks inherent to workshops and awareness-raising actions among children/youth audiences. as for the tasks associated with Activity 2 – Implementation of the Communication Plan, and making an analogy with the budget lines, are, in addition to the communication actions derived from the launch and final seminars of the Project, the execution of a promotional video, acquisition of postcards plantables and a publicity kit for activities and promotion of the project, as well as translation and summary printing services for PMAAC VFX, provided for in the approved communication plan.
The result of this project, analysis and strategic definition allowed the Municipality of Vila Franca de Xira to provide a planning instrument based on the most advanced technical and scientific knowledge regarding climate change, in turn supported by scenario and vulnerability analysis methodologies that guarantee the suitability of the action plan for the territory where it is expected to be implemented. In this context, 15 adaptation measures were defined, which are subdivided into lines of intervention and priority actions to be carried out by 2030 that seek to address climate risks that will affect the municipality in the short, medium and long term, namely: flash floods and floods ; excessive heat; droughts (agrometeorological and hydrological); rise in mean sea level.
