Description

The project aims to raise awareness among pupils, teachers, pupil´s parents and the public about the problem of climate change, adaptation of climate change and adaptation to climate change. The school campus will be used for environmental education and science subjects. Teaching in nature, practical and demonstrative teaching will have a direct impact on the environmentally friendly behaviour of pupils.

The Project is a synergic combination of soft and hard measures:

  • Creating and updating educational materials to provide lessons on mitigation and adaptation to climate change,
  • Material and organizational provision of education of pupils on mitigation and adaptation to climate change,
  • Increasing the proportion of greenery,
  • Reduction of waste generation and further utilization,
  • Building ecotextbooks using natural and technical elements (information panels, temporary sorting),
  • Building the green infrastructure elements,
  • Water retention measures,
  • Increasing the infiltration capacity of the territory.

Summary of project results

The Project aimed to address following challenges in the field of climate change adaptation and mitigation:

  • systematic education of students on impact of climate change and measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change with focus on water retention, waste reduction and greenery
  • implement hard measures on climate change adaptation being in synergy with soft educational activities to reach support waste separation, rainwater retention, biodiversity and share of greenery.

Following Project activities were implemented within the Project:

  • Environmental education through updated curricula of existing subjects, focused mainly on plants growing, forestry and waste sorting, educational trail
  • Material provision of teaching pupils in the field of mitigation and adaptation to climate change
  • Increasing the proportion of greenery
  • Reduction of waste generation and its further use (installation waste sorting facilities and building composter)
  • Building eco-pedagogical areas/eco-classroom using natural elements and technical elements (green roof)
  • Building green infrastructure elements - Building a vertical green wall
  • Water retention measures - Installation of surface rain water collection containers
  • Increasing the infiltration capacity of the territory: Replacement of concrete pavement and area for pavement with mortar and vegetation surface

Overall, 6 physical climate change responsive measures were carried out in school and school campus, more than 500 students participated the awareness raising campaign and 16 open access education materials were created.

The Project reached more than 1 thousand of persons selfreporting having more climate friendly behaviour due to implemented Project activities with impact mainly on students and general public as beneficiaries.
