-  Water management - Rainwater lake and garden

The Norwegian Project Partner - Radøy Secondary School is involved in the Project. The added value of the bilateral partnership is to share theoretical and practical experience in education of students about the climate change mitigation and adaptation including physical measures. The two Slovak Project Partners: Centre of free time Relax, Rimavská Sobota and the Primary School of Pavol Dobšinský in the City of Rimavská Sobota. The Slovak partners will cooperate in the elaboration of educational materials and awareness raising campaign on climate change mitigation and adaptation among students.

Summary of project results

The Project aimed to address following challenges in the field of climate change adaptation and mitigation:

  • systematic education of students on impact of climate change and measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change with focus on water retention, waste reduction and greenery,
  • implement hard measures on climate change adaptation being in synergy with soft educational activities to support waste separation, rainwater retention, biodiversity and share of greenery.

Following Project activities were implemented within the Project:

  • Environmental education through adjusting curricula and opening after school course  focused mainly on sustainable life,
  • Creating educational materials (worksheets, leaflets),
  • Construction of Climatic garden including building of self watering raised beds with useful plants and herbs, lake and rain garden, sensational path, insect house and meditation garden,
  • Waste reduction by using the composters.

Overall, 5 physical climate change responsive measures were carried out in school campus, 200 students participated the awareness raising campaign and 17 open access education materials were created.

The Project reached more than 1 500 persons selfreporting having more climate friendly behaviour due to implemented Project activities with impact mainly on students and general public as beneficiaries.

Summary of bilateral results

The project consolidated the cooperation with the bilateral partner school in Norway Radøy ungdomsskule, Alver kommune by exchanging the experiences in field of climate change. Practical experience gained due to realization of hard measures on climate change adaptation by the Project Promoter (construction of climatic garden with elements of water retention measures and greenery) and by the Donor project partner (solar power experiment equipment, indoor local growing) was shared within the awareness raising campaign with active participation of Slovak and Norwegian students.
