Description
The project proposes the installation of the variable speed drives on 5 high energy intensive motors within the chemical fertilizer production facilities on the Azomures S.A. industrial platform. The aim is to reduce the current energy consumption as well as greenhouse gas emissions. The proposed energy efficiency solution resulted from an energy audit report. The evaluation was made on a well-defined energy contour, with an impact on the Azomures S.A. factory in Mures county.
The implementation of the project comes with a set of benefits over the 5 drive motors by limiting the speed in operation in dependence with the required task and adapting the speed to the fictional regime in the processes carried out, so as to obtain a more optimal couple yield of the motors and at the same time avoiding starting and stopping the engines. Key activities include:
- External consultancy which includes project design and financial audit.
- Investment activities related to the new equipment.
- Project management by the internal team.
- Project publicity to ensure the visibility of the project.
Expected outcomes include a 6.975 MWh/year reduction in energy consumption and 2.134 tonnes CO2 emissions reduction per year.
Summary of project results
Through this project, Azomures S.A. installed variable speed drives on 5 high energy intensive motors to reduce the energy consumption, reduce the operational costs with the energy, decrease of CO2 emissions and increased security of supply. The outcomes of the project have been met:
- Reduction of energy consumption: 6,975 MWh/year; while operation the energy savings obtained for 5 VFD is about 880 KWh/h in normal operation. 0.880 MWh x 24 h x 330 day of operation = 6 975 MWh/year;
- CO2 equivalent emission reduction per year: 2,134 tons;
According to ANRE the CO2 footprint of 1 MWH of energy bought from the network is 0.300 toCO2/MWH – 6975 MWh x 0.300 CO 2tons = 2 134 tons. This are indirect emissions which are estimated based on information from ANRE.
