Description

Project addresses the problem of inadequate citizen involvement in solving climate change, the environmental issues and a lack of motivating information. aims to strengthen civil society, raise awareness of communities on climate change and environmental issues, and build their capacity to participate in the implementation of EU and Lithuanian strategic objectives in this field through local action.

The target group of the project is Kaunas District communities. Although there is some activity in these communities, the issues of climate change and environmental protection lack a deeper understanding of the causes, issues and focus of action.

The project activities (environmental awareness and advocacy seminars, roundtable discussions, etc.) will raise the awareness for Kaunas District communities on climate change and environmental issues, as well as help strengthen the capacities of these communities. In addition, civil society activities, through involvement on local climate, development of strategies for mitigation and environmental improvement will help establish long-term policy improvement.

The project partner Kaunas District Union of Community Organizations will contribute to the sustainable dissemination of results in all Kaunas District communities. Publicity activities of the project will also help to disseminate the results of the project in the communities of other Lithuanian municipalities.

The project is linked to the ACF''s overall objectives of strengthening civil society and active citizenship and contributes particularly to the following outcomes of the ACF:

• to increase citizen participation in civic activities

• to support civic education through the provision of capacity building to CSOs (civil society organizations)

• to develop CSO partnerships with public/private entities.
