Description

Environmental issues have become one of the most important topics in political, social and cultural discourse in recent years. However, in many cases, possible solutions to these problems remain at the abstract level and it remains unclear to the individual. The axis of this project is to raise awareness of environmental issues and to enable people to act, to develop a civic and responsible attitude towards their environment. This responds to the general objectives of the ACF, which identify concerns about raising public awareness of environmental issues.

The aim of the project is to bring environmental problems closer to the person, help to understand how our daily choices can influence the solution of the discussed problems. Promoting less consumption, developing new habits for a more sustainable lifestyle, disseminating do-it-yourself culture and urban gardening.

The target group of the project is families with young children, families expecting a baby, pre-school children and primary school children, as well as pre-school and primary education staff. It is for these target groups that we will model and develop activities that will enable children to be raised and brought up in a sustainable way, to develop awareness and respect for their environment from an early age. In finding the best and most effective way to promote lower consumption and develop new habits for a more sustainable lifestyle, we will first turn to children and the environments where their habits - family, home and education - are formed. If parents, teachers have the knowledge and skills to educate children, how to implement good practices in their daily lives, children will adopt and perceive a more sustainable lifestyle as a natural way of life.

Summary of project results

The goal of the Zero Waste Generation project was to bring environmental issues closer to people, to help to better understand them and to understand how our daily choices can influence the solution of the discussed issues. Promoting less consumption, developing new, more sustainable lifestyle habits, disseminating do-it-yourself culture and gardening in the city, helping and advising on everyday life - knowledge of everyday life, which the project tried to convey through the various activities (training, creative workshops, educational programs for schoolchildren etc.). The target group of the project was families with young children, families expecting a baby, preschool children and primary school children.

The project targeted their target groups by having modelled and developed activities that have enabled children to be raised and educated sustainably, to develop awareness and respect for their environment and nature from an early age. In order to find the best and most effective way to promote lower consumption and develop new habits for a more sustainable lifestyle, the project first turned to children and the environment where their habits - family, home - are formed. The project implemented several different blocks of activities that complemented each other and formed the whole project: from seminars and workshops for families, open Master Kitchen events, DIY playgrounds for children, or acquaintance with different gardening methods in the city to role-playing games with students.

The project increased the number of target audience involved in civic activities by 25%. It implemented 1 publicity and awareness raising campaign with information on sustainable living. 2 organizations prepared plans on social impact assessment and its measurement. During workshops "Raising a Zero Waste Child", 120+ families (from Vilnius and Kaunas regions) with children or expecting children obtained knowledge and practical skills on raising children in a sustainable and environment-friendly way. During "Master Kitchen" events, 500+ parents received information and practical skills on how to do everyday chores sustainably. 6 do-it-yourself play toys for children of 2-10 years of age were created. During gardening workshops, 110+ participants learned to practice gardening at home or in community gardens.
