Description

The aim of this project is to create favorable conditions for young people to start being more involved into local activities and develop their patriotic feelings. The Scouts of Plungė noticed, that leaders of communities try to involve young people permanently into activities. This is important for young people as well because self-realization is closely connected with self-esteem. Work for the local community strengthens self-confidence and identity. Lastly, engagement into different sorts of work serves as preventive means.

The goals of the project are as follows:

1. to participate in at least 10 events organized by village communities of Plungė district and cooperate in community meeting in 2021.

2.To involve young people from villages into active life of local communities and strengthen their patriotic feelings.

The ambition of the project is to make joint events with Scouts and village communities and along encouraging village youth to take part in the local activities, events, coming projects, community work and share ideas and results in FB.

The target group would consist of 14–29 year-old villagers, some older activists and Scouts.

Indirect impact will be felt by other village inhabitants when young people will activate the cultural life in the villages.

The expected outcome could be:

1. Groups of young people from 10 villages are organized (around 70–100 people)

2. They would share ideas, experiences in Facebook page „Home is here“ created and administrated by  the Scouts of Plungė city.

3. It would be achieved by organizing joint meetings with ten village communities and associations for discussions about their plans and ways to implement them and organize a general community meeting in 2021.

Summary of project results

The project solved the problem of involving young people living in villages in a more active community life. It was important to engage young people and strengthen their sense of citizenship. So the target group is 14-29 years old villagers.

The main activities and their results - participation in events in ten rural areas and attracting young people to rural communities through attractive activities: hiking, education, games, interwoven discussions about the community, joint work with community leaders.

A FB page "Here is home" was also created, where activities are publicized. The project revealed to the target group - the youth - that they are important to their community, interesting activities also take place there, and if it is lacking - they themselves (the youth) can be the initiators of the activity.

The overall importance of the project is that the information received from other young people (scouts) is closer and more convincing than what is heard from parents or grandparents.

The contribution of the partners of the Plunge scouts - the Žlibinai community - to the project is extremely significant. They mediated between village communities and Plunge scouts at the beginning of the project, and later initiated 3 out of 10 activities in village communities.

1. Questionnaires on the participation of local young people in village events and involvement in community activities were administered to the ten selected communities.
2. The project carried out a capacity building needs assessment of the organisation and developed an action plan based on the results of the assessment
3. Project activities involved 10 volunteer scouts and 2 members of the Žlibinai community.
4. The project established 5 partnerships with public entities for the implementation of project activities.
5. Events and discussions (on youth patriotism and community involvement) were organised in ten villages on the occasion of national, calendar, village holidays, etc., involving the youth of the villages in the events and promoting their citizenship.
6. Create a Facebook page "Here is home" to publicise events.
