Description
Blood related diseases might include haemophilia and blood cancers such as leukemia, categorized as non-transferable diseases with high mortality rate. Although it is estimated that 3,000 people in Romania are annually diagnosed with these diseases, still, it is difficult to present a real situation from a statistical point of view because there are no correct and complete statistics regarding the number of patients with hematological malignancies. On the other hand, after a research done among the students in hematology, both in Romania and Iceland, during the preparation phase of the project, it turned out that another challenge is represented by the discrepancies between what is learned in universities and what is applied afterword in clinics. Therefore, the Medicine and Pharmacy University of Cluj (RO), jointly with the “Octavian Fodor” Regional Gastroenterology and Hepatology Institute (RO), the “Ion Chiricuta” Oncological Institute (RO), Fundeni Clinical Institute (RO) and the Reykjavik University (IS) decided to exchange knowledge, best practices and values to address common challenges that Romania and Iceland face in this health sector.
During the project, the partners will:
- develop a common curriculum in hematology, by creating a 5 teaching modules course that can encompass the doctoral cycle of study, completed with joint diplomas recognized by all participating institutions and countries.
- set up a hemophilia e-platform at transnational level, with tools for teaching, learning and assessing learning of students with direct benefits on the management of hemophilia patients.
- organise 7 short term transnational mobilities for 90 students and teachers, 3 multiplier events involving 150 participants, and submit 5 joint articles to peer review publications to facilitate dialogue, learning and sharing in the field of hematology.
Summary of project results
Within the project the Curriculum in haematology with online courses and the haemophilia e-platform at transnational level, with tools for teaching, learning and assessing learning of students with direct benefits on the management of haemophilia patients, was elaborated jointly with the Islandic partner. In the field of haematology, five scientific articles elaborated jointly with the Islandic partner and 5 scientific articles elaborated by the Romanian team were submitted to peer review publications. Competencies and knowledge of Romanian 45 students and 8 staff on haematology were developed by participating in learning mobilities at the University of Reykjavik. The result of the project were disseminated to more than 100 specialists from Romania and outside. Summary of bilateral results
The knowledge on haematology was shared between the project partners. Working together, UMF Cluj-Napoca and the University of Reykjavik elaborated jointly the Curriculum in haematology, to be used by the Romanian partner and created the transnational haemophilia e-platform for students in medicine. The knowledge shared made partners elaborate and publish 5 common scientific articles. Two new applications to the EA Grants were submitted to the ESAYEP.
