Description

The aim of the project is to improve access to information and increase the educational level of the Roma community in the field of physical activities and a healthy lifestyle of young people aged 8 to 35 in the village Vojčice. The project will contribute to a better integration of the vulnerable group into society, to an overall better orientation in professional life and to the reduction of the threat of their social exclusion and the elimination of minority tensions. The project will contribute to the motivation of these people to acquire new knowledge. Project activities include the creation and equipment of a sports facility, the organization of seminars and regular trainings, and the organization of competitions within the community. The strength of the project is that, in addition to supporting the vulnerable group, it helps bring the majority closer to the minority and works directly with the municipality as a partner.

The municipality Trhovište is an important partner of the project due to their previous mutual cooperation in the work with the Roma community in this municipality. The municipality will provide the premises of its multifunctional playground and football field for the needs of organizing sports competitions of the majority and minority. It will also start the communication with other municipalities with the Roma community in the vicinity in order to organize sports competitions. The association will involve 80 people in the project and assumes a direct impact on 40 people from the vulnerable group.

Summary of project results

The project was necessary to build the connection of Roma minority with the majority, as the Roma minority was pushed out of the environment with aim to help young people to increase self-confidence, education, participation in any cultural event, spending free time, etc. As part of the project, we gave priority to young people who had nowhere to spend their free time because when they appeared at a football match, for example, they were excluded because of race, so we created spaces where young Roma could enjoy sports, education and we accepted among ourselves all other residents to see that it is possible to spend free time together regardless of ethnicity. We implemented group educational training, sport training, football matches, exercises on the work-out field, volleyball tournaments with a partner of the municipality where both the minority and the majority were involved. For us, the main result is the interest of young people in further follow-up education, spending their free time in sports activities, thus preventing crime, gambling, and other unhealthy lifestyles. A total of 203 people took part in the project.
