Description

The project has been developed from the need to diversify the cultural offer in Mangalia, to promote local artists and to increase cultural consumption among local communities and tourists. We have identified the opportunity to develop the Callatis Cultural Garden - a space made available to the community. The problems identified are the lack of venues for local artists, a limited offer of cultural activities, a lack of community space for cultural actions and, overall, limited support for the artistic community in Mangalia. In order to meet these problems, we will arrange the Callatis museum garden in a space of artistic exhibitions, cultural events and free time for the community and locals. During the project we will have 6 exhibitions, 12 creative workshops and 6 cultural events in the garden. Furthemore, the project partner from Norway will hold an art workshop in Mangalia, make the first exhibition of the cultural garden and create an artistic garden installation. All these support the local community, offering the opportunity to increase the visibility of local artists and the development of the public, but also to increase the cultural consumption among the population by diversifying the offer and ensuring a larger number of cultural events.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to address the limited availability of cultural spaces and diverse artistic programming in the local community. It sought to foster cultural engagement by creating a dedicated space for artistic events and by offering activities that appeal to different age groups. Additionally, it aimed to enhance the professional skills of cultural workers and generate employment opportunities in the cultural sector.

The project established the Callatis Cultural Garden, providing a new space for community-based cultural events. An artistic program was developed, attracting over 2,500 attendees. To further engage the public and diversify the local cultural scene, the project organized:

  • 17 artistic and creative workshops for young people and children,
  • 8 visual art exhibitions,
  • 1 ethnographic exhibition showcasing folk costumes,
  • 9 musical and film events,
  • The unveiling of an art installation coordinated by the Norwegian partner.

Additionally, three professionals from the project team participated in a professional training program, and 4.17 new jobs were created, strengthening the cultural sector.

The project enriched the local cultural landscape by providing a dedicated venue for artistic expression and community engagement. Over 2,500 people benefited from the artistic program, gaining access to diverse cultural experiences. Young people and children developed creative skills through workshops, while exhibitions and performances helped broaden the public''s appreciation of contemporary and traditional art.

The professional development of three cultural workers contributed to the sustainability of the sector, and the creation of 4.17 new jobs supported economic growth within the cultural field. The art installation, developed in collaboration with the Norwegian partner, fostered international artistic exchange and innovation. Overall, the project strengthened cultural participation, supported artistic development, and expanded employment opportunities in the creative industries.

Summary of bilateral results

The collaboration with the Norwegian partner Lise Wulff consisted in development of an innovative approach. An ecological message was sent through a workshop in which the participants created „woven stones”, later used in an artistic installation located in the Callatis Cultural Garden.
