Description
In preparation of the project we have identified challenges connected with teaching staff and students. Our Secondary School teachers (a project partner) need to be activated and more involved in innovative teaching and using IT. Students are immersed in technology, living in social isolation, not understood by adults. This discrepancy has led to teaching many students at home diagnosed with depression. The main goals of the project are to improve secondary school teaching practice and prevent students from social exclusion through ''job shadowing'' in Norwegian secondary schools, which will be provided by our Norwegian partner, an educational institution, whose owner is a teacher with vast contacts among teachers in Oslo. As a result of observing how Norwegian teachers deal with similar problems, our school will improve our teaching methods, by implementing them on our ground. Thus, we will get closer to excluded students and help them to come back to school.
Summary of project results
The main goals of the project were to improve teaching methods and to prevent emotional exclusion by accompanying Norwegian teachers in their work. During the visit, the participants visited three Norwegian schools, where they observed the work of teachers using activating teaching methods, promoting dialogue and inclusive behavior, and talked with a psychologist about working with young people with special educational needs. In addition, the participants of the visit watched the work in out-of-school institutions supporting the school in counteracting social exclusion and took part in workshops on the formation of prejudices and ways to eliminate them, organized by the Multicultural Museum in Oslo, and a visit to the International Center of the Red Cross where volunteer teachers help young people in learning. As a result of the visit, teachers more often use activating methods to arouse the interest of students and deepen their knowledge related to the innovation of working methods, e.g. by participating in training. The need for individual teaching in the Project Promoter Beneficiary Institution has decreased by half. The assumed goals and indicators have been achieved. The experience and skills gained as part of the project contributed to the promotion of the school and the improvement of the quality of the school''s work, improving communication. Thanks to the implementation of the project, it was possible to exchange experiences in different cultures and educational systems, and the school education system was enriched with methods of effective communication.
