Description

The project implementation aims to contribute to the mitigation of climate change in the region at local level. The objective of the project is an increase in the public's environmental awareness regarding the adaptation to climate change. It is expected the project will create a system of environmental education curricula focused on climate change and rainwater management. Project information will be shared with the general public on the Internet. The curricula focused on management of rainwater and climatic changes will be modified for the school education programme. The project also aims to implement such adaptation measures as: a rainwater garden, an underground tank, new planting of trees and sprays irrigation. Students from different classes at the school will be involved in the project. Proper teaching methods can ensure that this target group will influence the attitude of their parents and siblings outside of the educational institution and thereby achieve a synergy effect.

Summary of project results

Prior to the project rainwater on the school premises was considered waste to be discharged into drains. This can contribute to runoff and in periods of heavy rains, coupled with impervious surfaces, make the effects of climate change worse. Young people can learn from the value of rain-gardens and that rain can be used to replace potable water. In addition to the proposed adaptation measures in the project are developed curriculum for students with a focus on storm water management and its link to climate change. The project involved 198 students through teaching on the topic and in every classroom over the course of 3 lessons. In addition to theoretical training, the students acquainted themselves directly with implemented adaptation measures on the use and importance of rainwater. The project is proposed six kinds of measures to detain storm water and rainwater utilization . We implemented the following measures : - Building of waterfalls and fountains - Installation of a certified underground storage volume of 13 m3 , where trapped water from the roofs of the school is used for drip irrigation on campus - Installation of above ground rainwater tanks that collect water from individual troughs, thus trapped water will be used for watering výsedieb and climbing plants. - Building of two rain gardens - Establishment of vegetation wall of climbing plants to increase evaporation - Greenhouse to collect the water and growing plants for rain gardens - Planting trees in the number of 16 pieces
