In line with climate change and its impact on the society, the project will help to address the use of rainwater for educational purposes as well as at a practical level. The objective of the project is adaption to climate change, specifically flood and drought prevention and revitalization and school adjustment and adaptation to the needs of environmental education for pupils with hearing impairment. The project is expected to develop and promote curricula of management of rainwater and its link to climate change adaptation measures and to build construction of the small building for the purpose of environmental education for pupils with hearing impairment. Pupils of the school with hearing impairment are going to benefit from the project implementation. The donor partner, the Norwegian Forestry Extension Institute, will help the school in gaining skills and experience, and to identify new opportunities and to develop a potential for existing companies and products.

Summary of project results

The main aim of the project was to develop a curriculum for all the classes at school with a view to enhancing environmental awareness in the area of adaptation to climate change from the point of view of using rainwater, tackling flood and drought prevention issues. To perceive those problems in the area we live in - the school, the garden; to guide pupils to nature conservation, to understand natural patterns; to teach pupils in the garden environment - extruded classroom in the garden - envirohouse; building a rain garden not only for rain water capture but also for relaxing pupils and having an aesthetic function; gain experience how to teach enviromental themes from partners who are experienced in the field (Norway). The aim was achieved completely. During the project implementation these activities took place/: opening conference ; 4 workshops; education of pedagogues in Norway; environment house ; rain garden; final conference. By the project realization we achieved: teaching according to the new curriculum; experiential teaching ; environmental house and rain garden web page with project´s outcomes; making the portfolio of the project, giving the portfolio to partner schools both at home and abroad.

Summary of bilateral results

During implementation of this project a visit to Norway took place. We were very pleased because it showed us the potential of environmental education in teaching process and helped us to better understand how to approach children with climate change and drought issues. Based on this experience and knowledge we started to introduce experimental lessons in nature once a month, which was among children considered a very good way how to learn such important topic as climate change. During a study visit, we have seen real, not just proclaimed, effort to improve the environment. Future top officials are now in school benches. Now is the time to teach them to think environmentally.
