Description

The objective of this initiative is to get essential experience from the Norwegian (UNESCO) Magma Geopark for the Geopark Barandien to aspire for a UNESCO Global Geopark title.

During two reciprocal study tours and workshops, geoparks'' sites, schools and museums shall be visited. The main focus shall be transfer of experience in GEOfood principles, tourism, geopark management and activities for schools (incl. phone apps).

Future project-based bilateral cooperation shall be discussed within the seminar in Norway. Other participation is expected (interested public, schools, mayors, experts)

Summary of the results

We finished:
•    the Barrandien National Geopark exhibition in virtual form
•    strategy of future cooperation (After a joint discussion, both partners agreed that there is no need to translate the document into multiple languages. The document was created with the participation of both partners and therefore only personnel costs were used. Much more important than the publication was the creation of space for further collaboration.)
We realized:
•    2 planned study visits
•    Seminar about possible cooperation in the future
By the realization of the above-mentioned activities, we were able to see and understand the different ways in which are both geoparks managed and how different they work. Through the observation the staff of Barrandien Geopark was able to learn how Magma Geopark manages their area, how they spread information about geopark between the tourists, management of activities, and visa versa.
The manager of Magma Geopark held a seminar about being a UNESCO geopark which is a goal of Barrandien geopark.
Also, both geoparks were able to share their experience with each other and agreed to try to find a possible grant for a future project.
