Description

In line with the research on climate change and its impact on society, the project will help to deal with using rainwater on the educational as well as the practical level. The objective of the project is to increase awareness and education on climate change and measures for rainwater management and to reduce the rain water runoff into the town's sewage system. It is expected that the project will create a system of environmental education curricula focused on climate change and rainwater management and that it will publish project information to the general public on the internet. The curricula focused on the management of rainwater and climatic changes will be modified for the school education programme. The project is also expected to build such adaptation measures as: rainwater garden, underground tank, new planting of trees and sprays irrigation. Children, students and civil services are expected to benefit from the project's implementation.

Summary of project results

The main objective of the project was rainwater harvesting and subsequent use of this water. We implemented the objective within the educational process with intention to influence our students, so the ideas of ecological behavior to our environment could become an important part of their lives. We realized the objective by these activities: - building an artificial stream with infiltration reservoir - installing certified underground water storage tank - creating a rain garden - installing aboveground rainwater tanks - reconstruction of the vegetation roof above the food store - we situated a meteorological station in the school area, with the intention of practical education - planting common wood species in the amount of 16 pieces with the possibility of exploring the woods during Nature and Biology classes - We developed the curriculum for students with the focus on the rainwater management and its connection with the climatic changes. We have created a new opportunity for all the participants of the project to gain more information on ecological thinking and better environment. The whole school has been involved in the mentioned project, mainly through the curriculum, conferences, participation of the students, teachers, parents and other volunteers.
