Description
The project will focus on rainwater, rainwater harvesting, recycling and reuse. It will involve children, parents, local communities and the general public. The objective of the project is to increase public environmental awareness in relation to the adaptation to climate change. Through project implementation, the volume of reused rainwater will be increased and the knowledge of children about climate change adaptation measures will be raised. The curricula focused on management of rainwater and climatic changes will be modified for the school education programme. Educational activities focused on environmental issues will be organised. Children, students and civil services are expected to benefit from the project implementation. The Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute will cooperate in the development of measures to monitor directly results on the ground.
Summary of project results
The aim of the project the Adaptable measures to climatic changes around the school situated under Slanec Castle was: -to create the practical adaptation measures to climate change in the school area under Slanec castle, -to deliver 85% of rainwater into the pond and rain garden, -to increase environmental awareness of students on climate change through educational activities, -to optimize the water cycle and keep rainwater in the area of the elementary school directly under the castle hill, -to improve the microclimate around the school. The project succeeded in building up the pond and two rain gardens, planting trees, bushes, and putting benches and bridges next to the rain gardens. The project involved both pupils, parents, the wider community, and various civic associations. The whole surroundings of the ponds and rain gardens now provide benefits to students and the wider public.
Summary of bilateral results
The mutual cooperation was very beneficial and contributed to strengthened bilateral relations. We were provided a lot of useful information regarding adaptation to climate change, awareness raising or water management.
